It’s no secret that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the favorites among the franchise’s fans. In fact, since game developers and publishers started releasing remastered versions of games, as well as adding last-gen games to the growing list of Xbox One backward compatible titles, players have bombarded Activision for a Modern Warfare 2 revival.

Now, it seems gamers may finally get their wish. According to the official Xbox One DVR logs, it looks like Modern Warfare 2 is about to be added to the Xbox One’s backward compatibility list. Additionally, the Xbox DVR Twitter account noted the game’s addition to Xbox One.

That said, the above-mentioned Twitter account originally claimed that Modern Warfare 2 would be added to the Xbox One backward compatibility alongside Batman: Arkham Origins this week, but that has yet to materialize. Still, many gamers are confident the game will be added soon.

The move to add Modern Warfare 2 to Xbox One backward compatibility would be an interesting one on the part of Activision. After the impressive success of Modern Warfare Remastered last year with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, many in the community expected the publisher to give Modern Warfare 2 the same treatment alongside the Call of Duty: WW2 launch later this year.

While it’s possible that Activision is planning a Modern Warfare 2 remaster, it’s likely that Activision is looking to capitalize on demand now for a Call of Duty title. Despite topping the list of best-selling games in 2016, Infinite Warfare struggled to gain a foothold among gamers, and adding Modern Warfare 2 to backward compatibility could help bolster revenue for the summer.

With that in mind, this would be a great opportunity for Activision to push out a much-loved Call of Duty title to a current-gen gaming system and get first-person shooter players excited for the next chapter in the series come November.
