Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players can now download Update 1.08 for the newly-released first-person shooter game, but those on Xbox may be dismayed when they see just how big the update file is. The latest Call of Duty games have had massive file sizes, and sometimes updates for the games have been as equally out of control. The platforms receiving the latest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are not being treated equal, however.

Those playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStaiton 5 can download Update 1.08 for less than 1 GB. However, those playing the Xbox One or Xbox Series X versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have to download nearly 50 GB worth of data. It's unclear why Xbox gamers are being forced to download so much more data when compared to their PC and PlayStation counterparts, but this isn't the first time this has happened with a Call of Duty game on Xbox. It's also not the only way that Xbox gamers are getting the short end of the stick with the new game, as Modern Warfare 2 players on Xbox can't turn off crossplay.

Once gamers get over the massive file size for the latest Modern Warfare 2 update on Xbox, they will want to know what it does. For one thing, Modern Warfare 2 attachment tuning is back. The update also addresses crashing issues that have been plaguing the game and fixes for various bugs. Additionally, Modern Warfare 2 Update 1.08 patch notes mention some fixes that will be coming as part of the Season 1 update later in November.

On November 16, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players can download the Season 1 update, which will add the Warzone 2.0 battle royale and the new DMZ game mode. It will also include weapon balance changes and potential UI refinements, though more information on that front will have to wait for the Season 1 patch notes.

Something that hasn't been fixed in the new update is Modern Warfare 2's broken ping system. At launch, a glitch made it so enemies tagged with a ping in Modern Warfare 2 were stuck with that throughout the match, essentially giving the game a form of built-in wallhacks. Infinity Ward plans to fix this problem with the big Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 update on November 16, but the feature will remain disabled in the meantime.

Infinity Ward has acknowledged some other issues that will be tackled in future updates, like Modern Warfare 2 riot shield users being invincible, the DDOS Field upgrade bug, and an issue with helicopter height. Here are the full MW2 update patch notes:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Update 1.08 Patch Notes

General Updates

  • We’ve addressed a number of crashes affecting players across all platforms including the bug that caused certain players partied-up in game to crash when matchmaking. Last night’s update should provide additional stability in terms of crashing. We will continue to monitor live issue reports and provide resolutions as soon as we are able.
  • We have made general game improvements including:
    • Fix for various camos not unlocking during progression.
    • Fixed framerate drop issues.
    • Addressed known freezing issues.
    • Overall performance improvements.
    • Added fixes for stuttering and lag issues.

PC

  • A recent NVIDIA hotfix addressed some critical issues. Please make sure you are running the game on drivers 526.61.
  • The PC benchmark map has been updated with a more accurate reading of the FPS display.
  • Be sure to follow our friends at Beenox for additional updates for MW2 on PC.

Weapons

  • We are actively collecting weapon performance/usage data and will provide detailed updates on weapon-balancing with the launch of Season 01.
  • Last week we disabled the attachment tuning feature due to an issue affecting players with 4 or more tuned attachments equipped at once. We re-enabled attachment tuning in last night’s update so players should not encounter further issues equipping attachments on a weapon.

Multiplayer

  • Enemy or live ping will remain disabled in multiplayer until a fix is implemented with the launch of Season 01. This is due to a bug where ping remained on some players after death. KBM players are currently still able to danger ping.
  • The player icon on the minimap will no longer disappear after a player is revived in certain modes.

Maps/Playlists

  • We have added Breenbergh Hotel into Third Person Moshpit
  • There are no significant map changes, but we have patched various exploits and geometry bugs in the days since launch. We’ll continue to address small fixes through daily updates.

UI/UX

  • We continue to refine our UI and will have more details in the Season 01 launch notes.

In addition to changes that we have already made, we are also actively tracking live issues. Some of the known issues at present include:

  • We are aware of the following issues and fixes are in the works
    • Riot shield provides invincibility against chopper gunner and VTOL
    • DDOS Field upgrade availability bug
    • A bug affecting helicopter height, which allows them to leave the map in some instances

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
