Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is only a weekend away from release and rumors of hungry gamers scoring copies of the game early are beginning to accelerate.

Early releases, prompted by eager retailers and supported by free trade agreements, are every gamer's dream. We wait years for a title to make it into our local game store - who wouldn't want to shorten that wait, even if only by a couple days? It's no wonder broken street date rumors happen every time a major game is about to be released - and is there a game with more anticipation burning behind it than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? For weeks now, Infinity Ward's title has been at the center of numerous controversies - each of which has done little but build momentum toward the game's release.

Both Forza Motorsport 3 and Halo:ODST made it out a couple days early in several regions. But will any large scale retailers risk action from Activision this round? It seems unlikely, who would be willing to rush the release of Modern Warfare 2, only to be later blacklisted for the inevitable Modern Warfare 3? Remember when K-Mart was excluded from selling Gears of War 2 until 2 weeks after everyone else because the retailer had broken the release date for Fable II?

Maybe a few local game stores will slip a few copies out early but there's a low chance any big box retailers are going to risk getting Modern Warfare 2 early-release dirt on their hands.

Will you wait for Modern Warfare 2 or are you going to check your local game store this weekend, just in case?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has a scheduled November 10th release date.
