With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Vanguard, Activision waited until late in the summer to properly reveal the games. However, things are different for the 2022 Call of Duty game, revealed to be none other than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Activision has wasted no time promoting the 2022 Call of Duty game, revealing the logo, release date, box art, and more. However, Activision has yet to reveal actual gameplay or a proper trailer for Modern Warfare 2, but that may be changing in the very near future.

As spotted by Charlie Intel, the Modern Warfare 2 release date video includes some interesting spray paint on a shipping container. Written in neon green coloring, the paint reads "J - 8 - 22." While it could be a coincidence, it seems like a pretty obvious hint that the Modern Warfare 2 reveal date is going to be June 8, meaning fans will get to see the game for themselves in just a matter of weeks.

Lending credibility to this theory is the fact that reputable leaker Tom Henderson already said the Modern Warfare 2 reveal date would be June 8. Between Henderson's claims and the evidence found in the Modern Warfare 2 release date video, it seems highly likely that the reveal is happening on June 8, though Activision has yet to outright confirm it.

When Modern Warfare 2 is revealed to the public, it will be interesting to see what exactly is shown off. As always, this year's Call of Duty game is expected to be made up of multiple components. There will most likely be a story-driven single-player campaign for players to go through, not to mention the franchise's tried-and-true multiplayer as well as a third game mode of some kind. Based on the leaks so far, smart money is that the June 8 reveal, if it happens, will be focused on the Modern Warfare 2 campaign.

Later on, it's likely that Activision will turn its attention to Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer and third game mode. As far as the third game mode goes, nothing official has been announced at the time of this writing, but insiders point to an Escape from Tarkov-inspired mode called DMZ.

More information on the game will come to light in the months ahead, so fans can expect to learn plenty more about the campaign, multiplayer, the rumored DMZ mode, and Modern Warfare 2's cast of characters sooner rather than later.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will release on October 28.
