The announcement trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered revealed that the game is a timed PS4 exclusive. Though players on the Xbox One and PC platforms only have to wait until April 30th to play the campaign for themselves, this exclusivity does not sit well. Many fans — on PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One and PC — have taken to Twitter in outrage.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered's exclusivity is not an anomaly. Activision has a deal with Sony to release games exclusively on PlayStation consoles before anywhere else. Before this, Activision had a similar agreement with Microsoft which was in place when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 originally came out, making it an Xbox 360 exclusive at the time.

The history of platform exclusivity in the Call of Duty franchise does not protect it from angry fans, it would seem. Many have taken to social media in outrage and confusion. The most common response among befuddled fans seems to be that the exclusivity is a joke. Some are pointing out how bad the exclusivity looks amid the COVID-19 crisis.

While many tweets are in criticism of the exclusivity, some are bashing Xbox and PC fans for their impatience.

Still, many fans are looking at the bigger picture, arguing that the entire practice of platform exclusivity at the end of a console generation is ridiculous.

To add to the disappointment of being a timed exclusive, the game's beloved Multiplayer and Spec Ops modes will be absent. It's not all bad news, though. One thing for fans on any platform to look forward to is the inclusion of the game's infamous "No Russian" level.

Discourse surrounding platform exclusivity is one thing the gaming community is never in short supply of. Whether a game is a true exclusive, timed exclusive, or contains platform exclusive content, someone will be upset. Many find it to be a kick to the teeth when they support developers only to be denied content they're excited about.

Alternatively, some fans get upset when their favorite platform exclusive games lose their exclusivity. Take this irate Horizon Zero Dawn fan, who destroyed their home office at news that the game would soon be available on PC. While many fans of the game were excited that they would see their community grow, it seems this one was furious to see they no longer belonged to an exclusive club of players.

Whether players can play the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered now, or they have to wait a month, it will be a great way to spend the time while working from home.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is out now for PS4, with a PC and Xbox One version launching on April 30.
