A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 player has captured a funny clip in which they prove that the franchise's "oldest rule" of questionable timing still applies in the next-gen release. While each Call of Duty studio provides its own twist on the franchise formula, some features and systems have made the jump from one game to another and this classic rule is among those in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Reddit user RA199815 recently posted a clip of their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer experiences in which the player tries to aim around a corner just to get shot and killed as they look away as part of what's being dubbed "COD timing." Timing-related deaths have long been a staple of the franchise and according to RA199815 and many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fans responding to their post, this hasn't changed in the Infinity Ward title. Veterans of the Call of Duty franchise may have experienced COD timing in the Black Ops games, Advanced Warfare, Ghosts, and the original Modern Warfare titles.

RA199815's video begins with the player aiming down the sights of their gun on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's core map Farm 18 as they move slowly around a corner to see an enemy throw a flashbang toward them. After seeing this explosion, RA199815 mounted a nearby corner and pointed their gun right at where the flashbang came from, and waited for the soldier to reveal themselves. Staying stationary for several moments, another grenade is thrown close to RA199815 but just far enough away for the player to avoid damage, but they couldn't avoid the deadly consequences of looking away.

Just as RA199815 looks away after the grenade explosion, they're shot and killed from the direction that they were previously staring at, showing that COD timing is the franchise's oldest rule. In many cases, Call of Duty players can also experience COD timing by spawning in front of enemies or by choosing the wrong path on a traditional three-lane map just to wait for respawn moments later. While this aspect of Call of Duty hasn't changed in the latest release, players can currently exact revenge on the enemies that kill them by exploiting a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ping bug.

Although many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players are critical of RA199815's gameplay, with some calling it camping, others have suggested that the changes to perks like Dead Silence encourage the slower gameplay over running and gunning. One fan noted that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Ground War is particularly guilty of COD timing like in RA199815's video, while others expressed their own experiences with the franchise's oldest rule.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
