For all the hype surrounding the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision Blizzard has been uncharacteristically silent about many of the game's key features and content. While the broad strokes are fairly well established already, the specifics such as weapon selection, campaign details, and other assorted tidbits are still missing, which in turn gives way for leakers eager to share what they themselves have found out.

With that in mind, it was just a matter of time until someone got their hands on some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay footage, and a leaker going by the name of 3rbbcod got it first. His (removed and subsequently re-uploaded) footage consists of three different sections of the game, with the longest and most intense being the highway section, where the player battles against enemies in moving vehicles, jumps from one to another, and even gets to drive it as they progress.

The two remaining sections feature a short showcase of a returning weapon — a variant of the legendary H&K MP7 PDW — and a diving bit, where the player uses throwing knives to silently dispatch foes on a desolate pier. While it's still rather hard to tell, the available Modern Warfare 2 gameplay looks like its predecessor in moment-to-moment gameplay. As self-apparent as that might seem, it's still a good confirmation that the developer isn't looking to reinvent the wheel and that fans of the 2019 game should have much to look forward to.

There's still absolutely no word on how long Modern Warfare 2's campaign might be. The leaked snippets of footage certainly don't affect expectations in this regard either way, but they do suggest that there's plenty of variety present throughout the experience, with vast, sprawling deserts and dreary waterways both present and accounted for. This, combined with the previously shown off stealthy sniper missions and the classic oil rig assault sequence, paints a solid picture of the game.

Since pre-order owners get Modern Warfare 2 campaign a week before the full game launches, the campaign mode itself will be the highlight during this time, with multiplayer coming into the picture later on. Activision Blizzard may be keeping most information about the campaign under wraps for this purpose, hoping to get early adopters to play through the full solo campaign before they jump into multiplayer.

Thankfully, things won't be quite as secretive as they are now for long, as the official Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer reveal is slated for mid-September, giving the COD multiplayer fanbase a taste of what's to come. It's entirely possible that there will be more Modern Warfare 2 leaks released in the interim, too, but only time will tell whether that ends up being the case.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases on October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
