Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's first free multiplayer weekend will reportedly happen in December, according to a new report by reputable insider and leaker Tom Henderson. The Call of Duty games are consistently the best-selling games every year, but they can always win over potential new customers through their free multiplayer weekends.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the latest entry in the long-running series. Serving as a direct sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign picks up the story where that game left off. While there are those who like Call of Duty campaigns, the big draw is, as always, the online multiplayer component. Modern Warfare 2 delivers the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience with a new set of maps and modes for players to try out.

Those that have yet to purchase Modern Warfare 2 may soon have the chance to try the multiplayer free of charge. Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming believes that the first free Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer weekend will take place from December 15 to December 19. This will come hot off the heels of the Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 Reloaded update, which is expected to drop on December 14. However, an official announcement about the first Modern Warfare 2 free multiplayer weekend has not been announced at the time of this writing, and so fans should take the information with a grain of salt for now.

Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 just started on November 16, coinciding with the release of the highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Warzone 2 battle royale and its DMZ game mode. In terms of the core multiplayer experience, Season 1 also saw the addition of the fan favorite Shoot House map to the lineup. Shoot House was featured in the 2019 Modern Warfare game and proved to be one of that game's most popular maps.

Shoot House was often paired with Shipment in the 2019 Modern Warfare game in special "Shoot the Ship" playlists, and as it turns out, the maps may have a reunion soon. It's already been confirmed that Shipment is coming to Modern Warfare 2, though it's unclear when exactly it will drop. It seems likely that it will be added as part of the Season 1 Reloaded update, but that has not been confirmed at the time of this writing.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
