Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best shooters of the year which should come as no surprise as these games often ship with an ungodly amount of polish. The game is far from being glitch-free though as players can still warp through a map. Video games are complicated and sometimes the tiniest pin can blow the whole thing up.

Overall though, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has a lot to praise from its graphic story to its wild mission structure. Besides glitches and other bugs, the game could use a few tweaks here and there. Hopefully, these ideas can get patched in quickly.

8 Put Subtitles In The Black Bars

Modern Warfare 2 uses black bars for the cutscenes that are not rendered in-game. There’s also a grainy filter to these cutscenes, giving them more of a movie-quality design. It’s a great aesthetic choice but there is a small problem with these black bars.

It would be smart to put the subtitles in these black bars to use the space more effectively instead of shoving them onto a smaller part of the screen. Using real estate in a shooter when it comes to the HUD or subtitles is important.

7 Add A Photo Mode

Call of Duty is the one giant action/shooter series that has needed a photo mode for years. It makes sense not to allow players to use one in multiplayer but it doesn’t make sense to hide one for single-player. It would look so cool to post action screenshots online from new perspectives.

That’s part of the fun of using a photo mode in an action game or shooter like this. It sort of gives players a directorial feeling like they are filming their content. Hopefully, Modern Warfare 2 will get a photo mode in the next patch.

6 Add A Third Weapon

Grabbing a weapon in Modern Warfare 2

The developers of this series have always been proud of the realism they try to create in their campaigns. Some things still don’t make sense, like how players can get hit by bullets and recover without the need for a medkit. Since the developers shy away from that plot hole, they should also look the other way when it comes to weapon loadouts.

Shooters need to return to the 90s when players could have a whole arsenal on their backs like in DOOM. If a patch won’t allow players to equip infinite weapons in the campaign, then adding a third slot, like for a handgun, would suffice.

5 A More Consistent Checkpoint System

It’s great that Modern Warfare 2 offers players multiple difficulties and that they can be changed at any time. Part of the challenge comes in repetition from death due to poor checkpoints. Sometimes the checkpoints will be abundant and save sporadically while other times players have to go through long stretches.

This can be discouraging if a particular part, like during a stealth mission, results in many game-over screens. The wish here is to allow manual saves during the campaign but a patch to include more checkpoints would be appreciated as an alternative.

4 Create A Gun Sim Room

With dozens, if not hundreds, of guns littering the floors of this game, it’s odd that it doesn’t have a demo room. It would be great to add a practice mode wherein players could go into a menu and choose the gun they want and then try it out.

This could help players decide on their loadouts during multiplayer sessions too and is a feature that is longtime over for this series and shooters as a genre. Another recently released game, Bayonetta 3, does have a practice room which is helpful when trying to master the combat. Modern Warfare 2 should follow suit and patch one in pronto.

3 Add True Campaign Co-Op

One of the best things about the Halo series is that co-op is often a standard. It may not make sense to have Master Chief accompanied by another Spartan, like the first, but the plot holes don’t matter. Co-op should be a given in shooters like that series and Call of Duty even if they don’t make logical sense.

Now, Modern Warfare 2 does have a separate co-op campaign called Spec Ops which is fun. It would be even better if this series, at some point, made the full campaign cooperative. That may be hard to do in a patch for this game but the developers could try.

2 Highlighting Enemies

Another realistic thing about this series, besides the low weapon loadouts, is that it is hard to tell enemies from allies. That’s how it can be during real wars as well. It’s not as simple as a red team going against a blue team like in the Halo series which is why war is brutal.

In multiplayer it isn’t as tricky as allies have names above their heads constantly unlike the more sporadic highlights in single-player. Not knowing who to shoot in the campaign can result in quick deaths. Would it be so hard to add an assist-like feature that would perhaps highlight enemies with a glow or something in the campaign?

1 More Dialogue Choices

A dialogue choice in Modern Warfare 2

This series has experimented with dialogue choices and branching paths off and on. Black Ops 2 is still probably the biggest example with large repercussions based on actions taken. Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t have branching paths but it does have dialogue choices.

They are there to give players something to do during low-key situations. The only issue is that they aren’t around that much and don’t even appear until about halfway through the campaign. Adding in more would be costly to get the actors back in, but it would be fun even though choice ultimately doesn’t matter.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released on October 28, 2022, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
