Origin

Toichiro Suzuki (Mob Psycho 100)

The second season of Mob Psycho 100 is particularly significant in the origins of the Divine Tree as it is borne from various incidents that occur in that season. At that point in the storyline, the psychic terrorist organization known as Claw led by Toichiro Suzuki. Suzuki had especially powerful psychic abilities, and he was able to give psychic power to non-espers, and receive psychic power. In taking power from others, he was able to expand his own psychic ability, and it's this ability that turns out to be his downfall.

Being in possession of such immense psychic power led to Suzuki being highly egotistical, believing himself to be the absolute being destined to rule the planet, all because he had never met an esper stronger than himself. In the climactic battle against Mob, Suzuki increases his power output to match Mob's 100% state, and soon loses control of his abilities. Suzuki's body begins to break down from the overwhelming power, but Mob saves his life by taking on some of this excess energy. The two are engulfed in a huge explosion that results in a mushroom cloud, and from within that explosion emerges the Divine Tree.

Cause

The Divine Tree – Mob Psycho 100

During Mob's fight with Suzuki, he tries his best to get him to understand that no one can go through life all alone, and that everyone needs everyone else. However, Suzuki's highly egotistical personality makes it difficult to get through to him, as he has gone his entire life believing himself to be the ultimate, someone who does not need anyone else. Mob experiences a feeling of 100% Resignation, realizing that he can't convince Suzuki, and in reaction to this, Suzuki undergoes a state of 100% power output which destroys his body. During this entire battle, Mob had just happened to have a packet of broccoli seeds in his pocket that he had received from Reigen.

These seeds, having been exposed to the extreme level of psychic energy, in addition to Suzuki's ability to give psychic powers to non-espers, are the most probable direct cause of the broccoli that becomes the Divine Tree. The sheer size and its ability to act as a conduit of psychic energy are also possible outcomes from being exposed to energy not only from Suzuki, but from Mob himself. This means that on some level, Mob is responsible for the current arc in which Dimple decides to grab an opportunity, using the Divine Tree's power to ascend to the state of "modern god".

Psycho Helmet

Mob Phony 100 – Mob Psycho 100 III Episode 3

With the growing emergence of the Psycho Helmet Religion in the aftermath of Mob's climactic battle with Suzuki, Dimple sees the opportunity to achieve an ambition he has had since his introduction to the Mob Psycho 100 series. He assumes the appearance of the Psycho Helmet Religion icon, becomes the false founder and leader of the group, and through an intricate plan, he brainwashes the entire population of Seasoning City.

He is sustained by the power of the faith of the believers of the Psycho Helmet Religion, and this energy being directed towards the tree is capable of materializing the abstract. Effectively, Dimple latches onto an opportunity to direct worship towards a symbol of his deification, and as a result, gains access to an incredible amount of power. As the religion spreads, first across Japan, and then the entire globe, his strength will increase and solidify him as a god. To achieve this, Dimple has fabricated an origin story for himself and the believers of the Psycho Helmet faith, and through narrative, he is able to cement his position as an actual deity.

Abilities

Godly Dimple Godly Pose – Mob Psycho 100 III Episode 5

One of the major aspects about the Divine Tree is that Dimple has turned it into a powerful icon or relic of the Psycho Helmet Religion through promising blessings and happiness upon those who pray to the tree for a mere 5 minutes a day. With a combination of false rhetoric and literal brainwashing, Dimple is able to use the Divine Tree as a generator and conduit of immense power produced from the faith of the believers. Despite the tree being detrimental to the environment and being capable of siphoning the life out of the world around it, the Psycho Helmet faithful defend the tree from harm, as is seen with Teru Hanazawa when he attempts to use force to subdue Mob, who is adamant on putting a stop to Dimple's charade.

The tree is capable of granting power to psychics or taking it away, which is a possible direct consequence of it being borne from an explosion from Suzuki. When it is damaged, the Divine Tree is capable of instantaneous regeneration. Dimple, when using the power from the Divine Tree, is capable of assuming a golden form that transcends his regular wispy appearance; a form he has dubbed "Godly Dimple". His strength is incredible in this form, as Mob even admits that one of his stronger attacks could actually have killed him if it had more behind it. Overall, the Divine Tree is not unlike the Tree of Might as seen in the Dragon Ball franchise, as it siphons the life from the environment and grants its user immense power at a great cost.
