The following contains spoilers for Episode 6 of Mob Psycho 100 III, "Divine Tree 3 ~Dimple Is~," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The Divine Tree arc of Mob Psycho 100 III ends on an extremely sad note as episode 6 depicts the apparent death of one of Shigeo's closest friends, Dimple. The evil spirit-turned leader of a large religion lost his life after the Divine Tree; having developed a consciousness of its own, attempted to take Mob.

Before Dimple's demise, he and Mob were able to truly hash things out and talk as friends, bringing a close to his pursuit of his godly ambition – for real, this time; however, an unforeseen threat takes the opportunity to take root while Mob is unconscious. This episode continues Mob Psycho 100 III's amazing run this season, with stellar animation, voice acting, music, high emotions and an unfair but understandable end to Dimple's character arc and the Divine Tree saga by extension.

Someone Trustworthy

Mob – Mob Psycho 100 III Episode 6

The hilarious end to the confrontation in episode 5 saw Dimple noticing Mob's flashy Smart Monkey shirt that he bought with help from Teru. Dimple is so taken aback by the shirt's brazen tackiness that he can't help but roast Mob for his terrible fashion choice. He quips that there is no way Mob bought that shirt with the intention of looking cool or fashionable, and adds that he's worried about Mob if he is incapable of seeing how fatally unfashionable the T-shirt is. This tirade sends Mob over into 100%, but rather than blow up like he usually would, he expends all of his energy in one go, effectively making himself incapable of engaging in further combat. The reason why Mob effectively throws in the towel is because Dimple's harsh honesty about the T-shirt has proven to Mob that he isn't really an evil schemer – on the contrary, Mob believes that his behaviour is indicative of an inherent trustworthiness to Dimple that has made Mob rethink his stance. Mob apologizes to Dimple for not having taken his earlier invitations to join the Psycho Helmet Religion for what they were – Dimple's attempts to do something he has always wanted to do, together with his best friend.

Mob tells Dimple that he's unleashed all his energy and will simply hear him out because they're friends. Dimple is a friend that Mob can trust. Initially, Mob's abandonment of the conflict leaves Dimple confused as he tries to return Mob's attention to the situation at hand and the series of Dimple's actions that he had denounced. Dimple himself had not realized the simplicity behind his own lofty ambitions, and having had a taste of supreme power – the kind of power that Mob has lived with every single day of his life, he thinks it's actually adorable that Mob got carried away by something as trivial as having girls be interested in him. As Mob's approach to the situation changes after he sees his own mistake, Dimple loses all desire to follow through with his ambition and promises to undo the city-wide brainwashing and lose the gaudy transformation.

May The Real Psycho Helmet Please – Mob Psycho 100 III Episode 6

After having their much-needed conversation, Mob is completely drained from the siphoning of the Divine Tree. Dimple's transformation does not go away immediately, as he will need a few days for all the power from the Divine Tree to dissipate. Mob's unable to walk, so Dimple starts carrying him out of the tree, but they're attacked by a strange assailant; one who should not be able to do so in the first place: Psycho Helmet. Having gotten a taste of Mob's power, Psycho Helmet wants to keep him bound to the tree as a source of energy. Dimple tries his best to fend off Psycho Helmet's attacks, but soon realizes that he can't keep it up forever as the strange entity has found a way to use the Divine Tree's power in the same way Dimple did. When Mob regains consciousness, he sees Dimple in his true form, which makes him feel a little calm, but he still can't muster up the energy to leave on his own. Dimple realizes that Mob is weak enough to brainwash, so he gets him to head straight home, making it to that he can't hear what is going on around him as he does so. The scene is incredibly emotional as Dimple's appearance cycles between his Godly form and his true form, switching between revealing Dimple's badly mangled form and what Mob has been wanting to see throughout the whole confrontation. Mob turns around one last time and waves goodbye to his friend, thinking that he'll just see him later.

When back at the base of the tree, Mob instructs everyone present to leave, and everyone heads home. When he arrives, Mob quickly slides into bed and falls asleep. When he wakes up, Ritsu asks his brother what happened, because the breaking news broadcast is claiming that the Divine Tree was uprooted and tossed into the ocean by an unknown psychic. Mob is confused because he can't even remember how he went home; however, as the conversation continues, Mob slowly comes to realize what has happened. He tells Ritsu that he's just a little disoriented and needs to lie down. Once in bed, all alone, Mob cries over the loss of one of his closest friends.
