One of the best sports franchises on the market is MLB The Show. That doesn't mean that players don't have a wishlist for changes to the annual product. One of the most common of these demands is an easier method of changing positions. Unfortunately, MLB The Show 22 didn't deliver that this year.

So are players stuck playing whatever position they initially selected? Not quite. Thanks to some investigative work from the community, gamers who want to make a change in MLB The Show 22 aren't entirely hosed. There isn't a big button for it (maybe next year, right?), but those committed to moving around the diamond can pull it off.

Tell The Agent The Situation

The agent isn't on-demand but he is a valuable asset. Once every few months he'll check in to see how the player is doing. Sometimes it's just about playing time, possible trades, and contracts. But once every year or so, the player can tell the agent that the position just isn't quite right for them.

They will relay this news to the management team. The new crew in the booth will occasionally comment about any potential friction this may cause. But if there is a spot on the roster and the player's OVR is high enough, usually management will comply.

Take The Manager's Offer

The most friendly way to change positions occurs early on. The minor league manager will offer gamers a chance to play out of position for a bit and see how they like it. This is usually good for all parties since the new position is one that is needed by the major league ballclub.

PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch gamers (hopefully PC players can get the game soon) can then inform the team of how the experimental switch went. They'll get a brief window to accept the change, reject it, or suggest a new position entirely.

Make A New Character

This is likely the best option for most players, even those who have buried tens of hours into their player. Starting over might not feel right, but there is a very specific hindrance to excelling at a position other than the one that was initially given.

The archetype encourages managers to plug players in at a specific position by giving them certain bonuses. For example, a two-way player that goes for velocity and power will get an archetype that boosts those attributes. Players that want to stop pitching or hitting and focus on one or the other will find their archetype is inefficient. Such a fix necessitates making a new player and beginning the journey again.

MLB The Show 22 was released on April 5th, 2022, and is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5.
