Thirty Major League Baseball (MLB) players are representing their real-world teams while taking part in an online tournament through San Diego Studio's MLB The Show 20 starting tonight. Like with EA's 'Stay Home Play Together' initiative, the Players League is a charity event hosted by the MLB Players Association and Sony Interactive to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club.
Every participating player will receive $5,000 for an affiliate of the nonprofit in their community. The winner will receive an additional $25,000 for their local Boys & Girls Club. A full schedule of who is participating in MLB The Show 20 can be found at MLB's website, and the first matches of this three-week tournament are currently being held as of this writing.
Livesteams will be hosted on various social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch, for both MLB and MLB The Show; as well as each individual player's preferred streaming platform. The tournament comes after MLB indefinitely suspended all games due to coronavirus.
Based on metrics recently put out by Sony, MLB The Show 20 was the second most-downloaded game on PlayStation 4 in March 2020.
