Mauer is joining the team on MLB The Show 22 to provide analysis and narrative, giving fans of the game insight from a professional level. He is the first catcher in the franchise's history to step into this role, joining Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. and MLB Network Host Lauren Shehadi, and will deliver tips and tricks in video format that will play during a player's adventure in the Road To The Show mode. Also featured on the narrative team are familiar faces like MLB Network Insider Jon Paul Morosi MLB Network Host Robert Flores, providing different perspectives that will follow a player's journey throughout their experience. Rachel Balkovec, a minor league manager for the New York Yankees, will add additional batting tips in-game, a role she's very familiar with as a former hitting coach.

Another aspect of the narrative function in the game is additional commentary regarding big rivalry games. As seen in the premiere, when a player enters a rivalry game for the first time, commentators will highlight the experience of what it's like to play in big moment games against a team with a plethora of history behind it. New parameters added will dictate a player's performance, which will likely affect the overall grade of a player and individual stats throughout a season. The commentary team's overhaul includes new additions to the play-by-play and color commentator roles, with Chris Singleton and Boog Sciambi joining the game.

Mental Health Coach Kellen Lee also joins the team to provide deep insight into the many factors that play into a player's growth on the mental side and how certain situations and performance trends can affect a player's overall morale. New additions to Road To The Show include the ability to have multiple ballplayers instead of just one, a feature heavily requested by the player base. Players can create up to ten ballplayers and can not only select between pitcher, two-way player, and positional player but can also decide how they start their career in the game. As MLB The Show 22 debuts on the Nintendo Switch, San Diego Studio is pulling out all the stops in hopes of delivering a baseball game that lives up to the hype.

MLB The Show 22 releases on April 5 for PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
