Unlike its predecessor, which contained a roster full of new characters as well as a few returning fighters, Mortal Kombat 11 flips the script a bit by bringing back many fan-favorite Mortal Kombat characters like Noob Saibot, Baraka, and Skarlet. Even alongside newcomers like the Kollector and Cetrion, NetherRealm Studios is making sure that returning characters don't feel stale all these years later, adding new mechanics and moves to freshen them up a bit. In a recent interview, NetherRealm senior QA analyst, Steve Brownback, highlighted a few ways D'Vorah has changed.

At a basic level, D'Vorah will largely feel similar for those who played as her in the previous game. This is despite the fact that she's sporting a new look and her bug like limbs are always visible instead of only coming up when attacking. While her base loadout includes traditional moves like Ovipositor Rush and Bug Blast, her new variations and customization options are where players can really get a feel for how dangerous this character can become.

Without giving away too much, Brownback highlighted a few possibilities, including an option that allows D'Vorah to essentially fly during a match to drop bug bombs on the opponent. Another variation enables the player to launch slow moving bug projectiles or another which allows bugs to be attached to players and then detonated remotely. The other aspect of this variation is that the bugs can be stacked and can't be removed until they're used on the opponent.

One of the more wilder combat options for D'Vorah is a mechanic that essentially gives the player a way to cheat death. Originally thought to be the return of Animalities in Mortal Kombat 11, one of D'Vorah's equipable abilities allows her to spawn a bug after being killed which the player can then control to try and finish the match.

This bug has its own moveset, and the enemy will need to kill the bug in order to actually kill D'Vorah. In addition to unlocking an achievement for winning the match this way, the move is costly to equip, costing 2 of the 3 slots used to equip new moves, so it can be a gamble for players to use.

D'Vorah joins the likes of other character introduced in Mortal Kombat X such as Erron Black, Kotal Kahn, Cassie Cage, and Jacqui Briggs, all of whom have also received move set changes and enhancements to their existing abilities. With the launch roster mostly set, fans are eagerly awaiting to see the return of Kitana, a classic character that was confirmed earlier this week in an impressive Mortal Kombat 11 TV Spot trailer where she battled Scorpion. She, along with D'Vorah and the still unconfirmed Frost, are expected to be highlighted in the next Kombat Kast later this week.

Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to launch on April 23, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
