For more than 30 years, game development legend Shigeru Miyamoto has seen Nintendo rise from the edge of failure to a massive entertainment enterprise, and played a huge role in its sucesss. He was the creator of some of the video game titles that have become household name across the world, including Mario, the Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong and Star Fox. His titles have appeared on every console ever developed by Nintendo, and at the age of 57, it would seem that retirement is close at hand.

It may come as a shock, then, to the hordes of Nintendo fanboys and worshippers of his storytelling ability, that he thinks he still hasn't peaked in his development career. He talks in an interview with GamesTM:

“In the past five years I’ve been working on such unusual titles like Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.

“Ten years ago I could never have been able to imagine that I would be making games like that. That’s why I can say that the best is yet to come to me."

His comments will surely raise speculation about Nintendo's future in fans and critics alike.

"Whether [our next product] be a Wii HD, Wii 2 or an entirely new console, I am not in a position to say at the moment."

Miyamoto says his focus is on innovation, and he's certainly set the bar high with the Wii, which was the first console to make motion sensing a driving technology in all its games. As a result, gamers have enjoyed new methods of gameplay in titles such as Trauma Center, Mario Kart: Wii and Metroid Prime 3, which is arguably one of the best console FPS games of all time.

Take your bets, readers – what will Nintendo name its next console, and what sort of technological innovation can we hope to see?
