Deliver Us Mars is the sequel to the popular Deliver Us The Moon though this project tried to upscale the experience. In many ways, the game is a space exploration epic that ties in a great story with some interesting scenery and a great soundtrack. The ambiance of Deliver Us Mars is one of the biggest selling points as it guides players through a game with tension yet does so without over-egging the experience with needless extras.

Though it is not perfect, and there are certain things that new players should know before making some common mistakes. So, before shuttling into space and tackling the red planet, take a glance at these mistakes that most players tend to make.

7 Rushing Through The Game

If players are expecting this game to be an action-packed adventure, then they will face disappointment though there is a lot of excitement and tension. This is an atmospheric story-rich game that is about enjoying the tension, and it immerses players into the desolate Martian landscape.

The game gets better when it's taken at its own pace. The cutscenes, in particular, have been created with care and passion and are highlights to be enjoyed as much as any part of the gameplay. The open-world aspect of the game also gives the player a chance to search over Mars, and this adds to the satisfaction of discovering pieces of information that progress the story.

6 Expecting A Triple-A Experience

Despite the scope of the game, Deliver Us Mars is the creation of the small developer group KeokeN Interactive. But as a sequel to the successful Deliver Us the Moon, many people treat the game with the same expectations as a fully-fledged triple-A title.

This is where the experience can fall flat, as the game cannot compete with the polish that comes with the budget of a triple-A title. There are quirks and rough edges in Deliver Us Mars, but that should be expected and taken with a pinch of salt. Sure, the movement could be improved, especially when moving about on the ground, and character models are a little stiff, but overall the experience is in the storytelling. Don't expect the world from Deliver Us Mars.

5 Using Ultra High Graphic Settings

Deliver Us Mars is a demanding game on the hardware front, so many players will need to adjust the settings in the graphics in order to enjoy smooth gameplay; even with high-end graphics cards, players may need to play around with the settings. This could be down to poor optimization, but regardless, it will be beneficial to tweak the settings.

This is particularly evident in the cutscenes, which everyone will want to enjoy in a stable frame rate as they are the main body of the storyline. Deselecting the per-strand hair rendering will make a big difference in enjoying smooth cinematics.

4 Forgetting About Oxygen

Deliver Us Mars Oxygen

In pretty much every game that involves space in any way, there is a likelihood of an oxygen tank being given to the player. With no combat in the game, Deliver Us Mars creates tension in other ways, like limited oxygen for example.

The game can be striking at times, and sometimes there are puzzles to be solved while running low on oxygen. Most players will fall foul of forgetting this mechanic and suddenly find it hard to breathe. Keep an eye on the oxygen levels!

3 Focusing On The Uncanny Valley

In Deliver Us Mars, there is one aspect of the graphics that players are focusing on, and it's the characters' faces. As mentioned, the development team is an indie group, and therefore, players shouldn't judge them too harshly. With that being said, the faces can sometimes look outdated, as if they came from a previous generation. The voice acting is great, as is the story, but the character’s faces do not do it justice.

However, the rest of the game has some impressive visuals, especially when the players experience space. The views of the planets hanging against the backdrop of empty space provide an overwhelming experience. The players can really be immersed in space exploration at this stage of the game, and it truly leaves a player with a sense of insignificance in comparison to the vast expanse. Forget the character models, and enjoy the epic visuals that Deliver Us Mars offers.

2 Missing Out On Collectibles

Deliver Us Mars Collectibles

Deliver Us Mars has a trophy system, like many games, and some players will love this feature but might miss some trophies on certain chapters. If this is the case, players can go back and replay levels and search for their missing trophies. Finding these pieces of lore or information will enhance the storyline by filling in important gaps. When players get close to collectibles, they will be highlighted by a blue line and can then be scanned.

To some players, this is an important part of completing the game, but in the same instance, it is not a necessity. Although, it does give players an excuse to explore every nook and cranny in Deliver Us Mars, which is a reward in itself, thanks to the game’s atmosphere.

1 Rushing Climbing

The climbing mechanic in Deliver Us Mars is slightly slow, and this can be frustrating, but trying to rush certain climbing sections will lead to trouble. When climbing down, players can speed up the process by dropping and catching onto the rock face with the climbing picks. But for most of the climbing, players will need to manually swing each pick to get a firm grip before moving. It can take time to get into the swing of things, but there are plenty of tips and tricks that help make the game easier to complete.

Players will need to take extra time to complete climbs that require a backward jump and may even need to angle the camera to a comfortable position before being able to complete the jump.

Deliver Us Mars is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
