Director Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 7 has had a long and interesting journey that was severely affected by the ongoing pandemic. The next film in the Tom Cruise-led franchise has faced several delays, but whether it is a set photo or behind-the-scenes action, McQuarrie has shared constant updates with his followers on Instagram. A new post finally brings Ethan Hunt’s team back together again.

The cast and crew photo celebrates Mary Boulding, the first assistant director for Mission: Impossible 7, for making it through 100 days of production and “gracefully managing the impossible.” But, what stands out in the photo is the return of many familiar faces and an informal introduction to some of the new cast members.

With Boulding standing front and center, the image also features Esai Morales, Simon Pegg, Cruise, McQuarrie, Rebecca Ferguson, and Ving Rhames. Plot details are obviously being kept under wraps at the moment, but it has been confirmed that Morales will be portraying the main villain in the film. It is also known that Mission: Impossible 7 will include the return of some actors who have been a part of the franchise, including Henry Czerny and Vanessa Kirby. Some of the newcomers to join include Hayley Atwell, who is currently headlining Marvel's What If...?, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, and Mark Gatiss.

Another behind-the-scenes image shared by McQuarrie confirms that filming is still ongoing. Mission: Impossible 7 doesn’t have an official title yet, but it is slated to premiere in theaters on May 27, 2022. While the film was confirmed just a few months after Mission: Impossible - Fallout premiered, it has faced several speed bumps due to the pandemic along its way. At the time, it was decided that seventh and eighth installments of the franchise would be shot back-to-back. However, the pandemic caused delays to the extent where Paramount canceled the consecutive shoots, and Mission: Impossible 8 has been delayed by an entire year on the release calendar.

While Mission: Impossible 7 is still filming, Ferguson shared a heartfelt post on her Instagram account just a few days ago, marking the end of her MI7 journey. All the scenes that Ferguson is a part of seem to have been wrapped up already. While sharing an image of herself and Cruise on set, Ferguson confirmed that it’s a wrap for her and thanked the “wonderfully talented and tolerant team,” behind the highly-awaited project. It remains to be seen if the delays in filming will affect the release date, or if the team will manage to have the movie ready on time.

Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 27, 2022.
