The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has led to movie theater chains like AMC struggling as much of the world adheres to large gathering bans, and at the same time many movies have been released early through at-home viewing venues while entertainment productions shut down. Paramount Pictures recently announced a big shift in its release schedules for the next two years that has hit Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7 and 8.

Mission: Impossible 7 was pushed from July 23, 2021 to November 19, 2021; while Mission: Impossible 8 was pushed from August 5, 2022 to November 4, 2022 according to entertainment news site Deadline Friday. Similar delays have been seen with other major studio releases such as Marvel's next Thor and Doctor Strange films.

The most recent movie in the action spy-thriller franchise, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, grossed nearly $800 million according to Box Office Mojo. More sequels were inevitable, but production on Mission: Impossible 7 was suspended in February due to the coronavirus, and a similar delay was given to Cruise's other major upcoming release Top Gun: Maverick.

In March Paramount Pictures decided to release its hit video game movie adaptation Sonic the Hedgehog on digital storefronts early due to the coronavirus pandemic, but a physical release is still planned for May.

Mission: Impossible 7 is set to premiere in November 2021, 8 is set to premiere in November 2022.
