In case no one got the memo, announcements for the collector's editions of video games that aren't even on the market yet are in vogue this summer. In fact, with each press release regarding the matter, it seems as if game developers are trying to one-up each other in an effort to rope fans in with the most over-the-top contrivances imaginable. For instance, highly anticipated titles such as the cyberpunk-themed Deus Ex: Mankind Divided allowed fans to vote on what items they wanted to see in the upcoming collector's kitincluding a full-scale replica of Adam Jensen's combat rifle—while Fallout 4 is set to sell limited editions with a real-life working Pip-Boy.

Not one to be left out, Mirror's Edge Catalyst is hoping to pique the interest of longtime fans and newcomers by providing a package that will foster feelings for Faith, the parkour-driven title's heroine, like never before. Today, on the title's official website, Electronic Arts and Dice have revealed the Mirror's Edge Catalyst Collector's Edition, which will be available in limited quantity at select retailers worldwide for a sumptuously priced $199.99.

Although the fee might be a little bit costly for casual gamers, diehard fans of the franchise ought to find the contents of the Mirror's Edge Catalyst Collector's Edition to be filled with plenty of cool trinkets and collectibles. The full bundle includes:

  • Adult Faith/Young Faith diorama
  • Exclusive Steel book
  • Exclusive lithograph
  • Set of 10 concept pieces
  • Temporary logo tattoo
  • Temporary Faith arm tattoo
  • Storage box

While the descriptions for the package sound rather plain, the actual contents look to be quite appealing. For example, standing at 14 inches tall, the statue displaying Faith as an adult pensively looking at her adolescent self through a thin glass pane would make a neat shelf or mantel piece. Not to mention, the Mirror's Edge Catalyst Collector's Edition's inclusion of various concept art pieces and an exclusive lithograph should give fans a decent glimpse into behind-the-scenes aspects of the game.

Nevertheless, no matter how many knickknacks and gimcracks that developers include in the collector's edition of their releases, the most important thing is whether or not the actual gameplay lives up to all of the hype. Fortunately, as evidenced by our E3 2015 hands-on preview of Mirror's Edge Catalyst, the game's refined parkour mechanics and its Frostbite 3 engine-powered graphics should help the title handily do its precursor justice. Additionally, the prequel's creators are keeping the ethos of the first Mirror's Edge in mind by allowing no gun combat for Faith.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is set to release on February 26, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Players interested in the game's collector's edition can pre-order a copy starting today at North American GameStop stores or online, with other global retailers to be announced soon.
