Minecraft is a game with a somewhat pastoral visual style. Players treat themselves to sweeping natural vistas, overlooking wide meadows and Minecraft's new lush caves. The villages are made of wooden cottages and connected by unpaved dirt roads.

But Minecraft is also a game about creativity and pushing limits. Players push themselves to make complex structures that break the natural aesthetic, like factories and spaceships. One player even managed to play Minecraft within Minecraft.

If a player wants to do something like build a skyscraper or recreate Super Nintendo World in Minecraft, then they'll need to make concrete. This guide will cover how to make the most visually versatile option: white concrete.

The Building Blocks of Concrete Building Blocks

Making white concrete in Minecraft is pretty simple. All a player needs is white concrete powder. Just add water, either via a bucket or dropping the powder in a body of water.

Making the white concrete powder, however, is a bit more complex. The recipe for white concrete powder is 4 blocks of sand, 4 blocks of gravel, and 1 block of white dye. The sand and gravel are easily found in the game world, but depending on the color finding the ingredients for dye in Minecraft might be difficult.

Several dye colors can be made by mixing other pigments together, but white dye is not one of them. Instead, the player needs to find raw ingredients. There are two possible recipes for white dye: one involves bones, the other involves flowers.

How to Make White Dye

For the bone recipe, players kill skeletons until one of them drops bones. From there, players can craft the bones to grind them down into bone meal. Crafting the bone meal again will yield white dye.

For the flower recipe, players need to find a flower called Lily of the Valley. It has white petals and droops downward. Crafting them gives players white dye. Lilies of the valley can only be found in Minecraft's flower forest biome. If a player wants a consistent source of white dye, they can plant more lilies by fertilizing flower forest soil with bone meal. Note that, despite also having white petals, white tulips and oxeye daisies will not give players white dye.

In color theory, white is expressed when the three primary colors are all equally present. In other words, white is 33% red, 33% blue, and 33% green. Mixing actual red, green, and blue paints won't create white in real life, but it could in Minecraft. Hopefully a future update allows players to make white dye by mixing red, blue, and green dyes in the crafting menu.

Minecraft is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and various other platforms.
