Mojang has recently revealed a bunch of new features for Minecraft's upcoming 1.20 update, though many fans feel that the new Torchflower plant could provide more than just simple decoration for builders looking to implement some more natural lighting features in their builds. Along with the new cherry blossom biome, several new types of wood, a plethora of new decorative building items, and much more, Minecraft's 1.20 update will give builders even more creative potential to work with.

The new Torchflower plant is one such new item that fans can expect in the game's next update, though it's more than just another type of flower. Aside from use in gardens, the Torchflower can be used to breed Sniffers, a new mob to be introduced to Minecraft in the 1.20 update. These adorable prehistoric creatures were first confirmed to be coming to the game after they won the last community mob vote. They will be able to aid players once they're available by sniffing out rare seeds in the world that can then be planted and grown by players. However, many fans are in agreement that this new type of plant could serve a more practical usage in builds.

A player on Reddit under the name NinjaGamer1337 made a post on the site urging Mojang to consider making the Torchflower a light source, arguing that it could offer a more natural light source and an alternative to traditional torches. The post picked up a lot of traction on social media, with many like-minded Minecraft enthusiasts in agreement with the idea offering their own similar suggestions on how the Torchflower might be used for some creative builds. A natural glow would make a good replacement for lighting in builds that aim to blend in more with natural environments, but could also offer an effective method of securing bases as the added light can prevent hostile mobs from spawning at night or in other murky places.

An illuminating Torchflower would go particularly well with builds that make use of some of the other new decorative building options as well, not least the new types of wood coming to Minecraft with its next major update. Bamboo wood was one of the first features announced for the update, which is yet to have an official name, though the recently-revealed cherry blossom trees will also bring in a new, light-pink color of wood complete with its own door types, fences, trapdoors, and more.

These new materials ensure that players will be able to tailor their builds to any environment, including the gorgeous new cherry blossom biome that will be coming to Minecraft worlds later this year. It should be kept in mind that the features available in current snapshot versions are yet to be finalized, and the developers encourage any helpful player feedback prior to the update's official release.

Minecraft is available on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and most legacy devices.
