Even with it being over a decade since Minecraft first launched, the open-world building and digging simulator is still unveiling new free content updates for players. In 2021, Minecraft fans saw the release of the Caves and Cliffs update, which heavily altered how the underground portion of the map worked, even allowing players to dig below Y=0. There were also new mobs in the form of the axolotl and goats, alongside some more blocks for players to make incredible builds with.

Caves and Cliffs part 2 released in November 2021, and shortly after The Wild update for Minecraft was revealed with a general 2022 release date. The Wild seemed to contain around as much new content as the Caves and Cliffs updates, with new mobs, new biomes to be explored, and even ancient cities acting as miniature adventures for Minecraft players. Something else that The Wild update will bring to Minecraft is a larger focus on sound, as players will now have to consider the noisiness of their walking, eating, and other activities.

After a long wait, The Wild update finally has a release date for Minecraft. Players will finally be able to dive into the mangroves and ancient Minecraft cities on June 7. The early June release date means that the wait is nearly over for fans at the time of writing. As mentioned, there are plenty of things to look forward to in The Wild update. The new mobs are the Allay, a creature that won the Minecraft fan vote for new mobs last year, and frogs, which feed on fireflies.

Strangely, fireflies will not be included in The Wild update for Minecraft. However, there are plans to add them at some point, otherwise the frogs of Minecraft's world are likely to starve. There's also a new boat coming to the game in The Wild that allows players to have a storage space while they sail. The boat is built with a chest incorporated into its design, meaning that any player with a need to explore can set sail without leaving all their useful possessions behind.

The Mangrove biome will update Minecraft's swamps heavily, bringing mangrove trees to the game alongside a new mud block that can be crafted as well as being found naturally in the world. The Deep Dark biome rests under Minecraft's layer of bedrock, and is where players can find the aforementioned ancient cities of a lost civilization. On top of all that, there are plenty more things to be discovered in The Wild update, which even brings the first miniboss mob to Minecraft.

Minecraft The Wild update will release on June 7 for mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
