Through the release of games such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, developer Telltale Games earned itself a reputation for delivering strong, narrative-driven titles based on outside properties. One of the more intriguing choices for this story-driven studio was Minecraft: Story Mode, which aimed to add a narrative element to a series primarily focused on freedom and creation. As it turns out, Telltale has clearly been given the go-ahead to continue work on Minecraft, as a sequel to Story Mode has now been revealed.

This follow-up to Minecraft: Story Mode has not received confirmation from Telltale Games itself, however, and instead comes courtesy of the Australian Classification Board. There, a classification request has now been made public for a game known as Minecraft: Story Mode Season Two - Episode 1: Hero in Residence.

Although the listing itself does not reveal much about the title, it's been confirmed for a multi-platform release, and has been given a classification of PG by the board itself. This comes down to a 'mild impact' of the game's themes and the game's violence, with apparently a small amount of bad language thrown into the mix as well.

The choice to develop a second season of Minecraft: Story Mode over such acclaimed titles as The Wolf Among Us may surprise some fans of Telltale's games so far. Indeed, the Minecraft episodes were hardly the glowing critical success of the likes of Tales of the Borderlands, and perhaps gamers would be hoping to continue that story instead. Then again, with 55 million people playing Minecraft every month, that dedicated fandom is no doubt something that means a Story Mode sequel could see greater success than other options.

The first season of Minecraft: Story Mode is one that actually saw a lot of content. Rather than sticking to its usual number of episodes, Telltale Games extended Minecraft: Story Mode with three further episodes last year. Whether the second season uses a similar model remains to be seen, but no doubt more will be revealed soon.

Indeed, it's likely just a matter of time before Telltale Games officially reveals Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2. With E3 2017 just around the corner, that's as good a time as any for the developer to confirm the project, and hopefully some more details to boot. Be sure to stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
