Telltale Games has become something of a go-to developer for creating story-driven games out of outside properties, as seen with the recent Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation. One of the studio's previous games has also now officially been confirmed for a second season, with Telltale Games announcing that Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 is on the way.

The developer took to its official Twitter page to reveal that Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 is going to see release, and as it turns out the game will actually be launching very soon. The first episode of the game, dubbed Hero in Residence, will be available from July 11, 2017.

As usual for a Telltale title, the game will be available on a variety of formats, with the title coming to PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox One, and PS4. Interestingly enough, a release for the Switch has not been confirmed, although given that the original has been released for Switch (albeit at a higher price) Season 2 will hopefully make it to the console too.

Although Telltale Games has remained coy about the exact contents of Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2, a few details about the title have been confirmed. Apparently, a treasure hunt gone wrong will result in Jesse's hand being stuck in a cursed gauntlet, while there will be plenty of things returning players will find familiar in the second season. For starters, decisions from the first season will carry over, while the likes of Patton Oswalt and Scott Porter will be returning for voice work.

Telltale will no doubt be hoping that the reveal of Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 will have come as a pleasant surprise for fans, but unfortunately the news was revealed a little early. At the end of last week, a new entry on the website of the Australian Classification Board confirmed Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2, pipping the official reveal somewhat.

No doubt more details about the title will surface during E3 2017, but fans of Telltale Games in general are hoping that something else will be taking the headlines over the course of the expo. After all, the rumor mill has been rumbling with regards to an alleged James Bond adaptation, which would certainly be an interesting step for the developer.

Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 will launch its first episode on July 11, 2017, for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.
