It's been six months since the world learned that Telltale Games is creating an episodic Minecraft game. During this year's MineCon event, Mojang finally revealed Minecraft: Story Mode's first trailer, which depicts an active and densely populated Minecraft world, and shows players interacting with a choose-your-own-adventure-styled narrative.

In  Minecraft: Story Mode, players assume the role of Jesse, who plays the game with a tight-knit group of friends. Jesse and his buddies revere a group of players called the Order of the Stone, a group of four other players who rose to fame after slaying an elder dragon. The four members of the Order - the Redstone Engineer, the Warrior, the Griefer, and the Architect - are masters at different aspects of Minecraft gameplay.

During an in-game event called EnderCon (a riff on gamer gatherings like Comic-Con and MineCon), Jesse's crew discovers a dark power that's lurking in the shadows, waiting to unleash something dangerous on the world. The game will detail Jesse's adventure as he and his group of friends try to find the Order of the Stone in order to save the world.

The game's voice cast draws from both the film and the gaming industries. The main character is voiced by Patton Oswalt, a critically acclaimed stand-up comedian and veteran actor with over 135 credits to his name. In addition, David Fennoy, who voiced Lee Everett in the first season of The Walking Dead, and The Last of Us' Ashley Johnson make their Telltale returns, while 80's icons like Corey Feldman and Paul Reubens - better known as Pee-wee Herman - round out the cast. Here's the full cast, which is chock-full of both game and cinema experience:

  • Ashley Johnson (The Last Of Us, Tales From The Borderlands)
  • Billy West (Futurama, Adventure Time)
  • Brian Posehn (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Surf's Up)
  • Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Stand By Me)
  • Dave Fennoy (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us)
  • Martha Plimpton (The Goonies, The Good Wife)
  • Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, BoJack Horseman)
  • Paul Reubens (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pee-wee's Playhouse)
  • Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight, Speed Racer)

Mojang's Chief Word Officer Owen Hill, who last spoke about the benefits of adding females to Minecraft, had nothing but positive things to say about what he'd seen of Telltale's work on the series:

The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe. They've crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It's actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We're super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year.

What do you think about the trailer, Ranters? Does it look like you imagined it?

Minecraft: Story Mode will creep its way to gamers later this year for PC, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, iOS and Android - sorry, Nintendo fans.
