Telltale Games is partnering with several YouTubers to deliver the world’s largest live Let’s Play to promote Minecraft: Story Mode on October 12th.
With less than a week to go before the first episode of Minecraft: Story Mode is set to release, Telltale Games is clearly looking to build up as much hype as they can for their take on the block-based phenomenon. They’ve now promised to produce the world’s largest let’s play and, in partnership with YouTube Gaming, will be hosting a Minecraft: Story Mode event that can hold over 800 lucky fans in the Hollywood area.
The live series of let’s plays will take place at The Arclight Cinema Dome on October 12th, where the first several hundred fans to arrive will be able to see the world premiere of the inaugural Minecraft: Story Mode episode, The Order Of The Stone. For those who can’t get in to the Hollywood-based venue, Youtube Gaming will be streaming the event starting at 7PM eastern time. The game comes out the next day, so it’s a great chance for interested gamers to see if the season premiere catches their fancy.
The event on Sunset Boulevard is sure to draw a big crowd, and it looks like some of the cast from Minecraft: Story Mode will also be stopping by for the party. Although it hasn’t been announced who will be in attendance, the game has a star-studded cast with veteran actors like Cory Feldman, Paul Reubens, and Billy West. Players will get to choose their own gender in Minecraft: Story Mode, which results in the protagonist either being voiced by Patton Oswalt or Catherine Taber. The option to pick the player’s gender is a great, inclusive touch for a property which is played by audiences of all ages, and retains a huge demographic of younger gamers.
The first episode is set to introduce fans to the main plotline, which will revolve around the player attempting to find The Order of the Stone – a legendary group of Minecraft warriors who faced the fabled ender dragon and lived to tell the tale. What happens along this journey is anyone’s guess, but Telltale Games has a strong record with crowd-pleasing episodic content. With plenty of experience producing titles for huge properties like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones under their belt, hopes are high for their lastest project – though we hope they can stick to a somewhat regular release schedule, which is where their record gets a little spotty.
Minecraft: Story Mode will creep its way to digital release on October 13th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac. Mobile gamers will be able to play the game two days later on October 15th on iOS and Android. Vita and Wii U gamers will need to keep waiting on news of their respective release dates.
