SEGA's Sonic Central Livestream revealed many announcements, there was a small clip that implied that the Sonic series was going to collaborate with Minecraft. Beyond the clip that showed a sprite of Sonic's face recreated in the blocky landscape that Minecraft is known for, not many details were released. Today, more details of the collaboration surfaced, along with the entire collaboration itself being released fully on the Minecraft Marketplace: a Sonic the Hedgehog DLC pack.

Minecraft has been releasing downloadable content for its Bedrock edition since 2013, starting with texture packs for the game. With a collaboration with Halo in 2014, Minecraft began releasing "Mash-Up" packs, which are DLC packs bringing another series into the world of Minecraft's style with special key features included in special worlds.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Mash-Up pack comes with tons of content for fans to enjoy, such as the ability to traverse a custom world of several different classic Sonic levels at the high speeds the series is known for. The pack also comes with an array of skins of every Sonic character fans could wish to play as from Shadow the Hedgehog to even more obscure options such as different robotic Sonics, Mighty the Armadillo, and Ray the Squirrel.

There are many features packed into the DLC for fans to enjoy, including custom animations and behaviors for the different characters and skins, as well as many different easter eggs and secrets within the world's levels for players to find. The DLC even greets players with a 30th Anniversary Sonic logo, with a special dialogue box saying "Happy anniversary, Sonic!"

The DLC is available for the price of 1340 Minecoins on the game's custom marketplace. Minecoins can be purchased in groups, and the closest to the cost of the Mash-Up Pack sits at 1720 Minecoins, which retails for about $10 depending on the region it's purchased from.

While it may not be the anniversary title fans were hoping to release this year, a Sonic world to explore filled with all kinds of staples of the franchise such as Chao and collecting Chaos Emeralds is still a present that fans can enjoy for Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary. The fans who enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog and Minecraft have a whole world of exploring ahead of them as their character of choice, and even once the world has been explored completely, fans can still enjoy their usual Minecraft worlds with a Sonic skin.

The Sonic x Minecraft DLC Pack is available now with Minecraft Bedrock edition on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
