Minecraft's golems have always been an interesting part of its development. Creating sentient beings out of inorganic materials and pumpkin is probably one of the strangest ways to create life in gaming. However, similar golem-esque creatures such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Garganacl are strangely reminiscent of these features.

Sharing a likeness with Minecraft's iron golems, Garganacl possesses a stocky and blocky appearance, and they almost seem like they could fit right in with Minecraft's other creatures. These sedimentary specimens could even serve as great inspiration for a stone-themed golem as well.

Minecraft's Potential For a Garganacl-Inspired Golem

Tiny Jens and Tiny Agnes introducing the copper golem for the Minecraft Mob Vote

Minecraft's history with golems goes as far back as 2011 with the addition of snow golems. Snow golems were an interesting concept because it brought crafting outside the crafting table. Players were able to create a living, functional creature through 2 snow blocks and a pumpkin. The iron golem would come next, but would also mark the last golem addition to the game since then. But between that time and now, Mojang has seemingly wanted to add more golems to Minecraft. Minecraft mob votes have included the copper golem and tuff golem, though neither proved popular enough to be voted into the game.

Despite never succeeding in Minecraft's mob votes, Pokémon's Garganacl could serve as the perfect source of inspiration for a new golem. It has what the other golems lacked, that being an interesting theme. Garganacl's layered appearance is a reference to real-world sedimentary layers that form over thousands of years. The fact it is alive is reminiscent of the inorganic materials that compose the golems of Minecraft. It also uses a material not seen in other golems with the stone that composes it, ensuring that Garganacl is the perfect example of what a Minecraft golem should be both aesthetically and thematically.

Stone golems are a concept Mojang has sought to use in the past. In the most recent Minecraft mob vote, tuff golems were included as a possible addition. However, they easily lost due to their functionality being overwhelmingly lackluster compared to its counterparts. Unsurprisingly, Minecraft fans didn't consider a living display case to be a particularly exhilarating addition. However, the fact it was considered proves that a golem like Garganacl is creatively possible in the eyes of Mojang. Of all the new mobs that should be added to Minecraft, a stone-themed golem would be one of the best, considering it is a return to a tradition that stopped over 10 years ago.

How exactly it would function is up to the developer. However, there are some other ideas that would do well thematically for a stone golem, aside from display cases. For example, their relationship with the earth could allow them to assist the player in finding ores. Perhaps they could even serve as digging companions with the player, tunneling alongside them as they both search for some shiny, blue diamonds. If they were to take more inspiration from Garganacl, perhaps these golems would be found rather than made. After all, it takes quite a lot of time to form the sedimentary layers shown on Garganacl. This would add a layer of fun to exploration, and also fits in with the theme of prehistoric times the Sniffer brings to Minecraft.

The potential for a stone golem like Garganacl to shake up Minecraft's current selection of golems is limitless. Minecraft's recent addition of Allays shows that Mojang is willing to add mobs with more complex mechanics. A stone golem could fit right into this niche, bringing something new and fresh the game's world.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy consoles.
