Releasing to the public for the first time in 2009, Minecraft is far from a new game. Nevertheless, few titles have managed to stay as relevant over the years as the survival sandbox game. With a community made up of millions of players, it is no surprise to see new creations continue to be made in Minecraft’s expansive open worlds.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as Ominous_Hippopotamus shared a collection of images from a megaproject they recently completed in Minecraft. According to the Reddit user, the build was modeled to resemble a Mediterranean island. As a result, they carefully terraformed the terrain to represent the semi-arid appearance of the real-life location. The land featured steep cliffsides with patches of grass and shrubs, while some trees still managed to grow among the rocky soil. In addition, numerous buildings dotted the landmass, all featuring a distinctly Mediterranean architectural flavor.

Besides the rugged yet beautiful landscape, Ominous_Hippopotamus’ massive creation featured several highlights, such as a statue on a large rock connected to the main island. According to the creator, it was modeled after the goddess Athena. Furthermore, the build included a large sailboat just off the shore. The design of the ship was incredible, featuring numerous sails and lanterns. While this intricately detailed model would be impressive in its own right, making it part of a large project was even more spectacular.

In addition to showing the Mediterranean island in the Reddit post, Ominous_Hippopotamus provided some details behind the process of making the large-scale build. According to the creator, they built the island in Creative and used SEUS renewed shaders. However, they noted that they wished to go back and attempt to recreate it in Hardcore in the future. Unsurprisingly, the project took a long time to plan and build. When all was said and done, the project required over 1,000 hours of work. Luckily, Ominous_Hippopotamus claimed that it was fun to construct, and they said that listening to podcasts made the work easier.

With an impressive 23.6K upvotes in only a day, many were impressed by the level of detail. While numerous fans liked the stand-out features of the build, such as the ship and statue, others pointed out the incredible job the creator did terraforming the island. Besides commenting about the island design, others wanted to see Mojang introduce a Mediterranean biome to the game.

It is exciting to see talented fans design unique builds in Minecraft. Besides this Mediterranean island, another fan recently decided to create a base built on a giant Ravager. It will be interesting to see what other creations skilled builders come up with in the coming months.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
