A new entry dazzled readers today in the Minecraft subreddit, sparking lively discussions and endless praise towards the creator, Viator. The thread is titled "I made an abandoned city in minecraft," but the view readers are treated to proves the architect of this Minecraft world nearly undersold their design.

The very first image viewers see is a set of buildings covered in vegetation, three of them leaning to the side as they seemingly partially sunk into the ground. The camera slowly starts to pan to the side, revealing most of these buildings are standing in a body of water with rubble and various plants growing out of it. Soon the next scenery follows, showing the inside of a building covered in grass, light flooding in through the now missing ceiling and lighting up the water that gathers in the center. Then we see more of the city, an avenue is revealed with a row of buildings on each side, and streetlights emerging from the water. The rays of the sun sweep across the scenery and next we see a wandering trader with their llama observing the abandoned city. Viewers get a couple more shots of this city in the rain before the screen slowly fades to black.

The thread includes nearly 700 comments, some asking Viator about how long it took them to build this world whereas others are rather trying to pinpoint what medium these images remind them of. People are mostly divided between agreeing that the city gives them NieR:Automata or rather The Last of Us vibes, although some other games have been suggested in lesser numbers as well such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Looking at the other threads from Viator it seems they have a big fascination with abandoned landscapes, as this world is just the latest entry in their previous works that appeared on Reddit two years ago. Out of the previous two images on one, they cite inspiration from the Maze Runner franchise and the other one they simply name as an apocalyptic city. The latest abandoned world has also been made available for players to download and explore themselves.

It's always a joy to see when Minecraft players produce breathtaking buildings and worlds for others to admire and enjoy, especially when they put special thought into their presentation. The video posted by Viator is a small cinematic experience in itself as they play with different light conditions and angles to truly display the beauties of this city that has been taken over by nature. Despite the city's long-gone glory, it is a peaceful place where players might like to create a camp and marvel and the reflections of the mighty buildings in the mirror-like surface of the water. But whatever might be anyone's preference the creative achievement of this world is undeniable.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
