The potential to have a truly massive digital world with near infinite possibilities has been realized numerous times over the years. Along with the boundless universe that exists in No Man's Sky, Minecraft is one of the biggest games in terms of its map size. With all that sprawling space, fans have spent the past decade or so creating all manner of interesting and intricate designs. It's even possible to build public transportation, which is what this one person has done using some impressive engineering skills.

Uploading a tutorial to YouTube a couple of days ago, user Estam has managed to build a fully-working train in Minecraft that's even powered by engines. The video shows a demonstration of the locomotive in action, before some instructions are given for anyone who's interested in building it themselves. The whole process is a lot more complex than it initially seems, especially given that the train is capable of going forwards and backwards.

Interestingly enough, the train also comes with passenger carriages, in which some villagers can be seen sitting and enjoying the ride. Estam also shows off the train in a kind of homage to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, in which the player moves through the train before blowing up the front of it. It's all very reminiscent of the train robbery sequences in Red Dead Redemption 2, which also pays homage to the classic Western film.

As for how to construct it, it seems to utilize a series of blocks all placed in a specific way. For one, players will need some pistons, including sticky pistons, some slime blocks, and some observers which are used in many Minecraft redstone contraptions. Where it gets a little more convoluted is in activating the gears. As well as the engines, the train needs gears and the tutorial shows that they must be turned on in the correct order to operate first or second gear. The result itself is pretty amazing, with the train chugging along on the tracks that the creator laid down.

With so many incredibly talented Minecraft players making interesting builds, it's no wonder the game's popularity is still as high as ever, despite it being more than ten years old at this point. Given that there is so much space to play in, and the roster of building tools to go with it, there will always be something that fans can create and oftentimes, they are a sight to behold. It will be interesting to see what Estam comes up with next.

Minecraft is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
