Hostile mobs are commonplace in Minecraft. Whether it’s the classic explosive creeper or the dangerous armies of the Pillagers. Minecraft has many threats, and the Pillagers are some of the most interesting, violent, and lore-heavy.

There’s a lot that players need to know before encountering Pillagers, as there are many different types, all with their weapons, yet they are all equally aggressive. Minecraft Pillagers are a danger, and knowing is half the battle.

8 How To Start A Raid

Raids are an important addition to Minecraft that adds an emphasis on combat and heroics. Villagers will be under siege from Pillagers, and players must protect the scared and defenseless Villagers by killing all of the Pillagers in the Raid. However, many might ask how to start a Raid in Minecraft.

The way that players can start a Minecraft Raid is by finding a Pillager Captain. These captains are noted through the banner they carry on their backs. Killing them will grant the Bad Omen effect, which means that the next Village to be visited will start a deadly and dangerous Pillager Raid.

7 Illager Types

Players should be aware that Pillagers aren’t the only threat that lurks. Pillagers hold crossbows, but they have powerful allies that assist them on Raids, Patrols, and Woodland Mansions. Other than Pillagers, there are Vindicators, a hostile Illager type that wields an Iron Axe. There are also Evokers and Illagers that cast spells to further damage the player.

Along for the ride is the classic Witch, who will occasionally assist in Raids, and throw damage splash potions. Yet, perhaps the most dangerous Illager ally is the Ravager. The Ravager is an Illager beast that deals great damage and rides at great speeds. Players should keep themselves high out of reach of these dangers.

6 Totems Of Undying

Evokers may be dangerous, but they drop a great reward on occasion. Evokers can drop Totems of Undying, a rare Minecraft item of great importance. Although the Totem of Undying cannot be crafted, only managed, it just makes it more worth the exploration and dangers to obtain, as this Totem of Undying in Minecraft will allow players to cheat death.

If players are holding the Totem of Undying in their off-hand instead of a shield, they will be granted the status effects of Absorption 2, Regeneration 2, and Fire Resistance 1. Fatal damage will be traded for the Totem of Undying, and thus the player will be saved.

5 Woodland Mansions

On top of Raids, Outposts, and Patrols, Illagers and Pillagers exist in perhaps one of the rarest natural spawning buildings in Minecraft: The Woodland Mansion. These mansions are extremely rare, and for good reason, as they are where the Illagers reside. Attacking them head-on is extremely dangerous, but entirely rewarding for the loot and excitement in this biome.

Some players may ask how to find a Woodland Mansion in Minecraft, and the answer can be tricky. Players can find Woodland Mansions through sheer luck, or, a Woodland Explorer Map from a Cartographer Villager. These maps will grant the adventure that players seek.

4 Curing Bad Omen

Sometimes, Pillagers can be truly a burden on the player. They disrupt villagers when players might just want to visit their neighbors for a good trade. However, the Bad Omen effect that will be cursed to the player can be cured, and without dying. If players take an empty bucket to a cow and drink the milk, Bad Omen will be cured.

Curing Bad Omen in Minecraft is a great benefit to the player, as it means they can disable the inevitable raid that could risk their lives of themselves and the innocent villagers that are just going about their day.

3 Allay Captives

The Allay is an interesting passive mob in Minecraft. What makes the Allay unique, other than their distinct “fairy-like” design, is the fact that they will collect and deliver items depending on what item the player gives to them to go and find. This can make Allays a great friend, but how does one find Allays in Minecraft?

The best and only way to find Allays in Minecraft is through Pillager Outposts or Woodland Mansions. Allays are held prisoner by the Illagers, and the players can free them by unlocking or breaking their prisons.

2 Secret Illusioner

An enemy mob that is yet to be introduced to Minecraft in both Java and Bedrock without commands is the Illusioner. The Illusioner is a hostile Illager mob type that is in the game’s files but is not actually in the game itself. Using commands, Java players can summon the Illusioner, although the hostile mob isn’t fully completed.

The Illusioner looks like they are wearing some snazzy pajamas, and can use spells and a bow. The spells that the Illusioner can use consists of creating decoys and creating a blindness effect for the player, all while shooting them with a bow and arrow.

1 Villager Rewards

Villagers certainly do not want their peace interrupted, and Pillagers are pretty good at making the lives of Villagers not so peaceful. When the player assists in a Raid and the Villagers are all safe, they will celebrate with fireworks and many noises of glee.

Not only is there a cute celebration of victory for the Villagers, but sometimes they will throw emeralds, or more importantly, reduce the price of the items that they will trade with. Raids can be a great way to get Villagers to reduce the extortionate price of their stocks.

Minecraft is available on PC, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Mobile devices.
