Most people who play Mojang's block-building survival phenomenon, Minecraft, will be surprised by a creeper and inevitably lose their life, or at least their home, to the explosive little guy. The block-based-bombs are well-known for their destructive prowess, and due to their silent footsteps, will often sneak up on players, with only a brief sizzle preluding their explosion. This new Minecraft mod seems to only make them more difficult to notice, with new features making them sneakier than ever.

A new addition to the Depixel Minecraft mod has made one of the game's most notorious enemies, creepers, harder to detect. Although the mod's main focus isn't on altering the explosive Minecraft monsters, the latest update does add the feature to its wealth of content.

With this in mind, the new addition to the expansive Depixel mod pack for Minecraft might seem like some kind of cruel joke. The mod is mostly a texture pack, aiming to faithfully update the game's graphics without sacrificing the charm of the original design. However, the most recent update is adding a camouflage effect to creepers, allowing them to blend into their environment. This will make creepers, who are already more difficult to detect than the rest of Minecraft's bestiary, even harder to spot, especially in dimly-lit environments.

The mod gives creepers distinct camouflage for each of Minecraft's biomes, even ones for The End and The Nether, biomes which usually have no creepers in them. This will be of great help to players who use creative mode, who can now be exploded in biomes they are normally safe in. The creator of the Depixl mod, Schmueles, seems to know exactly what they are doing, having posted a series of images to reddit with the accompanying text reading "If your life wasn't hard enough, this resource pack makes creepers camouflage to their biomes."

While many Minecraft mods seem to be about making your life easier, or adding quality of life upgrades to the game, there are Minecraft mods that make the game harder, and this will certainly be no exception. The Depixel mod is mostly known for its enhancements to Minecraft's graphical fidelity, along with its attention to detail with regards to maintaining a more vanilla design philosophy. Although this update is still essentially a cosmetic update to the game, it is perhaps one of the mod's most impactful alterations to actual gameplay.

The Depixel mod pack is developed by Polyflore, and is available to download at basically any website that offers Minecraft mods, as well as at Polyflore's own site. However, Minecraft fans looking for a new experience will have to be extra careful when loading up Depixel, thanks to this latest update, as there could be a creeper hiding right in front of their eyes.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
