Updated November 30, 2021, by Anastasia Maillot: With the 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update finally at fans' doorstep, Minecraft players can finally get their hands on the new world generation Mojang has been working hard to bring live these past few months.

This means lush caves are a reality in the game and no longer a feature that can only be found in snapshots. Although much hasn't changed in terms of what to expect from these lush caves, there are a few additional details players need to know about finding them.

Lush Caves In Minecraft

Minecraft Lush Cave

Lush caves are caves filled with underground growth, included in the 1.18 update and in the precedent snapshots. This temperate underground biome can generate with tall grass, cave vines, azalea trees, blossom spores with little particle effects, and lichen. Players can also find lily-pad-like patches of moss growth in the water and clay pools around the area.

There will also be big and small dripleaf plants as well as glow berries that will keep the area lit up. Players can feed bone meal to small dripleaf plants to make them grow into large dripleaf plants if their lush caves are just not quite lush enough.

Lush caves are the best location for players to find some of the new passive mobs like axolotls and glow squids. This is due to the fact that lush caves will typically spawn in shallow pools of water and indoor lakes. There are also glow berries, which are a new type of consumable players can use to breed foxes and cast a bit of light around them.

Prior to the 1.18 update, this was the primary way of exploring lush caves to the fullest degree. Those who still want to play around with the world generation can give it a try. Players will have to create a new single-player world in order to get a Minecraft seed with lush caves.

How To Find Lush Caves?

In the Overworld on the surface, Lush Caves biomes look exactly like Minecraft's plains biomes do. The area will be filled with trees, their roots hanging down into the caves below. Inside the caves themselves, moss grows along the ground of these caves, and vines hang from the ceilings.

Azalea trees and moss will usually mark an area where a lush cave is located underground, so players should look out for them while on the surface when trying to find a lush cave. They will typically spawn in forest-type biomes, but even then, they are incredibly uncommon biomes and a rarity when found.
