Minecraft Legends has understandably caught the attention of many fans of the wider franchise, with the upcoming game aiming to bring the successful sandbox IP to the genre of real time strategy. While this new gameplay is of course an attractive prospect, many are additionally excited at the expansion of lore and narrative that the release is set to provide.

When discussing what parts of the lore that Minecraft Legends should focus on, the story of the Allay mob seems to be the most pertinent. With the current mystery surrounding this new mob and the more spiritual narrative that Legends is set to possess, the upcoming release seems to provide a perfect opportunity to expand upon the Allay lore in a meaningful way.

The Mystery Behind the Allay Mob

Minecraft Allay

The Allay mob was added to Minecraft in June 2022 with the Wild Update, much to the anticipation of fans. Being small wisp-like mobs, Allays are very unique in both aesthetic and purpose when compared to the many other in-game mobs that populate the world of Minecraft.

The primary purpose of an Allay is that they can be tamed by the player by being given an item, with the Allay then following the player in search of any other of that specific item on the ground. Allays are also passive mobs, and can be duplicated by being given an amethyst shard. The Allay appears to be based on an entirely new chapter of Minecraft lore, with the mob not possessing any obvious links to realms like The End or The Nether.

In its current state, the Allay is a relative mystery when regarding its place in the lore of Minecraft, with the mob waiting for the correct platform to fully delve into its narrative intricacies. With what is already known about Legends, the upcoming release could very well be the space to flesh out the Allay.

How Minecraft Legends Could Portray Allays

With Minecraft Legends exploring a conflict between the Nether-born Piglins and the united mobs of the Overworld, the title very well may portray one of the most narratively-driven Minecraft experiences that games have ever seen. To further reinforce this, Legends is set to revolutionize the lore of Minecraft by introducing three unique mobs known as Hosts. Hosts in Minecraft Legends are the first ever mobs to have voice acted dialogue in the franchise, seemingly being ancient beings that will guide the player through the events of the game.

Hosts are overtly similar in aesthetic to Allays, only further bolstering the concept of Minecraft Legends being a perfect opportunity to expand the mob's lore quite significantly. Allays will be used within Minecraft Legends to aid the player in resource gathering and construction, with yellow and blue Allay variants being an essential part of the allied mob types that will be available to the player in-game.

Minecraft Legends would also do well to link the lore of the Allays to that of its aforementioned Hosts, with Allays potentially being created by, or at the very least related to, the Hosts due to their shared spiritual appearance. With the story-driven nature of Legends' campaign and with the presence of its voice acted mobs, Minecraft Legends has a perfect infrastructure to forward what is known about the Allays in a relevant and constructive manner, especially when considering the high level of mystery that enshrouds the mob as of right now.

Minecraft Legends releases in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
