Anyone wanting to survive in a normal or even a hardcore world will need to gather this item in abundance in order to assure their survival. While it might not be diamond armor or a powerful potion, it's a must-have early game item that ensures a good start for any Minecraft player.

How To Get Bone Meal

Minecraft Composters And Bone Blocks

Bone meal can be found in several places in Minecraft. It can be crafted out of certain items, and it can also be found as loot in certain special scenarios. Either way, bone meal isn't difficult to get, regardless of the player's starting biome.

  • Craft from bones or bone blocks: Place a bone or a bone block into the crafting grid. Bones will give 3 pieces of bone meal, while bone blocks give 9 pieces. Bones are a common drop from killing Skeletons and can also be found in treasure chests. Bone blocks spawn underground in the Overworld on a rare occasion, or commonly spawn in the Soul Sand Valley biome in the Nether.
  • Dropped by fish: Slaying fish (not fishing for them), has a small chance of them dropping bone meal. For Bedrock players, fish will drop bones.
  • Produced by composter: Composters can be crafted with seven pieces of slabs in the crafting grid. Placing any item that's considered food or a plant will compost it, and once the composter is full, it will return the items as bone meal for the player.
  • Traded by the Wandering Trader: The Wandering Trader will spawn close to the player after a few days have passed in the Minecraft world. Sometimes, he sells a bone meal for a few emeralds, though this trade isn't really worth it.

How To Use Bone Meal

Minecraft Farmland

The primary use of bone meal is to grow plants and crops fast in Minecraft. If bone meal is applied to a crop that isn't fully grown, it will advance it to the next stage, or past several stages depending on the player's luck. Bone meal is essential to get a good farm going quickly in survival mode.

It's not just crops that are affected by bone meal, either. Players can apply bone meal to a grass block, which will grow flowers and shrubs on it. This is useful for players who want to decorate their outdoor areas. Bone meals can also be used on tree saplings if players are desperate for wood.

How to make armor different colors in Minecraft

The second use of bone meal in Minecraft is to make white dye. It can be used to create pastel colors from the primary dye options. Banners, blocks, glass, leather armor, and many other items can be dyed using white dye. In Bedrock Edition, bone meal doesn't need to be turned into white dye to have this effect, and bone meal alone works as a dye in this version of the game.

Minecraft was released on November 18, 2011, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and many other platforms.
