The highly anticipated Warden mob has been added to Minecraft following the Wild Update. This terrifying lumbering creature terrorizes curious miners who wander too far down and too deep. For players looking for a worthy challenge, finding and beating the Warden should be a top priority.

The Warden, however, isn't like many other mobs in the game. Certain conditions must be met for it to spawn, which can only be attained in specific locations and biomes. Here's where players can easily find the Warden, and how they can potentially kill it in Minecraft.

Where Does The Warden Spawn?

Minecraft Deep Dark Biome Patch

As mentioned, the Warden doesn't respect regular mob spawning rules. As with mobs like the Wither, for example, players need to deliberately do certain things to coax it out of hiding. First, however, players need to find a deep dark biome.

This is the home of any Warden and is fairly rare to find. They are usually located deep underground at extremely low elevations. Players will recognize the biome by its bluish and turquoise sculk blocks. These are most abundant in Ancient Cities, which are structures dedicated to the Warden that spawn in deep dark biomes.

How To Spawn The Warden

Minecraft Sculk Shrieker Block

Once players have discovered one of these deep dark biomes, they should look for a block called the sculk shrieker. The block has a very unique appearance of four white nodes sticking out, with an animated center part.

Walking within 16 blocks of one of these sculk shriekers will cause it to activate. Players can also walk next to any sculk sensors that can transmit the information of their sound to a sculk shrieker if they can't get close enough to a shrieker or can't see one. Once the shrieker is activated at least four times and the light level around it is at most 11, it will make a sound for a few seconds and emit unique sound particles, to summon the Warden.

The player will be cursed with the Darkness status effect, which lasts for roughly 12 seconds. The Warden will spawn near the shrieker, so players should step away and take cover, as well as avoid making any sounds.

Beating The Warden

Minecraft Warden Wandering Around

The Warden is an incredibly strong hostile mob. For comparison, the Wither has 300 HP in Java Edition no matter the game's difficulty. In the meantime, the Warden has 500 HP and environmental hazards like lava are of no use against it. The Warden also has no innate weakness like the Wither, which takes extra Smite damage.

While the Warden is blind, it can detect sounds easily around it and chase after players without seeing them, and it can also smell players after performing a short sniffing animation. This makes it a frighteningly good predator in the dark caves.

Killing the Warden is actually quite useless. It doesn't drop more than 5 experience points and a sculk catalyst, and it just takes a lot of effort to kill one. In comparison, the Wither drops 50 XP at its death. It's likely that Mojang intended the Warden to feel like a real threat, rather than be a boss that players would farm.

Another issue with beating the Warden is the futility of shields. A single melee attack can actually render shields completely useless, which means players should deal with this beast at range. However, the Warden also has a powerful attack called a sonic boom, which can reach targets even at incredible range and even ignores any defense the player might have, including Netherite armor, highest tier enchantments, and shields.

With all this in mind, the best strategy is to use a powerful bow, and stay at least 15-20 blocks away from the Warden to avoid its sonic boom attack. It's also possible to trap the warden into a hole he can't crawl out of and snipe him from afar, but even then players should be careful not to get hit by his sonic boom.

Minecraft is available on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android and iOS devices.
