Mobs are the one thing that makes the sandbox world of Minecraft feel a bit less lonely. There are hostile mobs to keep things interesting, such as zombies and skeletons which spawn at night to scare off the player, as well as passive mobs like cows and chickens that can be farmed for food.

Mojang is constantly introducing new mobs to make the world more versatile, but throughout the years the development studio has also chosen to remove a few mobs from the game. While some of these were never meant to stay for that long, a few of them were initially planned for the original Minecraft game.

7 Nerd And Smiling Creeper

Minecraft Smiling Creeper And Nerd Creeper

Creepers are the most famous Minecraft mob. Due to their annoying ability to explode at close range and destroy anything in the process, they've become infamous among fans. It's no wonder then that Mojang decided to introduce two joke mobs: the Nerd Creeper and Smiling Creeper.

Both of these mobs were just there for a bit of fun and had distinctly different facial textures from the regular Creeper. The Smiling Creeper also had the effect of never harming the player when it exploded, and would even leave behind poppy flowers as a gift.

6 Indev MD3 Mobs

Minecraft Indev Models

These MD3 mobs have a very peculiar appearance because they were used by Dock, an artist that no longer works on the game. With no animation to speak of, these mobs would be used to test the game during the game's early development.

The mobs came in four different designs: Rana, Steve, Black Steve, and Beast Boy. It's still fun to see that the concept of Steve survived into the final iteration of the game, even if the MD3 mob type was removed.

5 Diamond Chicken

Minecraft Diamond Chickens

Introduced as another April Fool's joke, the Diamond Chicken was a regular chicken with a blue texture. What made it truly special, however, was its ability to produce diamonds and even lapis lazuli rather than laying eggs.

This mob has to be the dream come true of any Minecraft player. Imagine the possibilities of a Diamond Chicken farm. If Mojang brought this mob back as a rare encounter in Minecraft, it could make for some cool farming ideas.

4 Redstone Bug

Minecraft Redstone Bugs

Everyone is familiar with silverfish from Minecraft, able to spawn in the mountain biomes from random infected blocks and found regularly in strongholds. Well, Mojang found it funny to introduce a similar critter, but red instead, as a reference to redstone.

These little bugs could spawn near redstone with a quickly changing signal, and particularly when mining a redstone ore block. Silverfish already being annoying enough to deal with, it's one mob fans are most likely happy is no longer in the game, but only made an appearance as an April Fool's joke.

3 Love Golem

Minecraft Love Golem

Iron Golems are the best way to protect a village or a base in Minecraft. They're among the strongest mobs in the game and can be easily fixed with some iron ingots. They also received a joke version as an April Fool's update called the Love Golem.

Love Golems had a slightly different, pinkish texture with a heart on their chest. Moreover, they would never attack hostile mobs, which made them completely useless. Their design is really unique and sweet, but any player would take a regular Iron Golem over a Love Golem.

2 Human

Minecraft Human Mobs

The player and the villagers are today the only creatures considered human in Minecraft, but that wasn't always the case. Previously, when Minecraft was in the early stages, a passive mob known as Human could be spawned in the game. These creatures would simply move around without doing much else and would share the appearance of the player character, the default Steve.

There was also a hostile version of these Human mobs called Monster, which would actually attack the player. Later, these mobs were removed since there was no real need for them, and Mojang introduced actually unique and themed hostile mobs. Still, how terrifying would it be to come across a wild Steve while exploring, only to die to it?

1 Pink Wither

Minecraft Pink And Regular Wither

Pink and Wither are two words most Minecraft fans probably wouldn't imagine seeing together. But alas, the Pink Wither is a real thing. It was a joke mob that could be summoned just like the real Wither, but instead, players would need pink wool and a potted rose to bring it to life.

The Pink Wither in Java 2.0 could be given sugar to grow additional heads like the original Wither had. Moving around, the Pink Wither was able to grow grass and flowers on the ground and even had the ability to heal other mobs. A snapshot, 15w14a, has the Pink Wither become a more hostile mob that can shoot just like the regular Wither, and occasionally these skulls could also damage other entities around it.

There's also the matter of its extremely silly and unique texture, which makes it one of the more amusing mobs. It's a real shame it was deleted permanently by Mojang.

Minecraft was released on November 18, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and many other platforms.
