Minecraft’s latest update, 1.20, also known as Trails and Tales, will introduce new blocks, mobs, and features that will bring a lot more excitement to the Overworld. With camels, bamboo blocks, a new bookshelf, and plenty of new features just around the corner, Minecraft’s Overworld dimension is set to become a bit more crowded. However, this does leave many still hoping for an End update in the future. With each update adding something new to the Overworld, especially following Caves and Cliffs, and update 1.16 adding in many new biomes, blocks, and a few new mobs to the Nether, it is high time that the same treatment is given to the End.

Unlike the Nether and the Overworld, the End dimension has not seen a lot of new content added since its initial release back in update 1.0. This has caused the dimension - which serves as the location for one of the boss fights in Minecraft - to grow incredibly stale, with players only entering the dimension to either fight the dragon or find the Elytra. With Trails and Tales set to update features in the Overworld once again, it is high time that Minecraft’s End dimension gets a serious update that adds new mobs, blocks, and loot that will entice players to explore the location once again.

The End Is Growing Stale

Currently, Minecraft’s End dimension serves as the starting point for the late game, as players who have entered the dimension have a chance to gain tools and experience to allow them to tackle bigger builds and take on tougher enemies. Upon entering the End dimension for the first time, players will be forced to fight the Ender Dragon, which can be challenging for any new players attempting this on their own. After defeating the dragon, players will see the credits roll and will gain access to the End’s outer islands that house the various End Cities, naturally generating structures that contain some of the best loot in the game, including the Elytra.

The End's outer islands are very similar to the Ender Dragon’s island where players spawn into the dimension and are also filled with Endermen that will attack any player that looks at them. Players will be able to find a few new blocks, including Chorus fruits and End rods in the outer islands, and will also be able to kill Shulks, whose drops are required to craft Shulker boxes, a big upgrade to Minecraft’s regular chests. Unfortunately, this is where the End’s usefulness runs out, and most players can gain all these materials within their first trip to the dimension, making future journeys to the dimension unnecessary.

What The End Dimension Needs

Like the Nether, the End needs a lot more biomes and mobs to make it a more worthwhile dimension to visit following the defeat of the dragon and the acquisition of Shulker boxes and the Elytra. New biomes could add variants to Endermen that can be challenging for the player to kill as well as new blocks that could only be found in the End. Further, adding in a food source and a wood type would make the dimension viable for starting out in, something that can be a challenge for any seasoned Minecraft player.

The update to the End could also add a new mob that functions like the Nether’s Strider, by giving players the ability to travel over the void while riding the mob. The dimension could also get new loot, such as a new enchantment book only found in the End, or even a new ore that could compete with Netherite. Mojang also has many mods to take inspiration from, each of them adding biomes, mobs, blocks, and even loot to the otherwise stale dimension to make it more exciting, challenging, and rewarding for players to explore.

Minecraft’s End dimension remains one of the few areas of Minecraft that has not seen a big update since it was initially introduced into the game. With the dimension playing a vital role in the general progression of the game, it is vital that Mojang considers updating the dimension and giving players more to do when exploring it. Whether Mojang takes inspiration from existing mods or introduces brand-new ideas to upgrade the dimension, Minecraft’s End remains the one dimension that needs a lot of new features to make it an exciting place to visit once again.
