Over 10 years have gone by since Minecraft was first released, but with new updates coming to the game, players refuse to put down the popular sandbox survival game. This week has seen many remarkable Minecraft creations, with players' works of art and mechanisms going viral almost daily.
One of these creations was actually a recreation of one of the world's most iconic man-made structures, capturing it as a massive scale-model in Minecraft. The structure in question is one of the tallest and most recognizable structures in the world, and is the centerpiece of the city of Paris. If anyone is still guessing, the recreation was of the iconic Eiffel Tower.
Reddit user md_yeamin_habib is the creator of the massive scale model, posting it on the Minecraft subreddit for all to see. Their creation is the inverse of the wooden axolotl from Minecraft, instead taking a real-life model and scaling it into the game. They note in the title that the model is a 2:1 scale, but later correct their mistake in a comment, saying they meant it was half the scale of the original, not double.
When something from the real world enters Minecraft, it tends to come out looking strange due to the block-based engine of the game. For buildings, this usually isn't a problem as long as they are built on a large scale; when done correctly, the structures tend to look very realistic from a distance. Unfortunately, in the case of this Eiffel Tower model, the problem seems to be that md_yeamin_habib's dimensions are off. Comments were quick to point this out, saying the model looks stunted in the middle. When comparing the model to a picture of the original, there is a clear structural difference in the height of the two structures.
It is also hard to tell what md_yeamin_habib built the model out of because they used a texture pack. It looks as though the model was built completely out of stone blocks, but there might be some darker blocks in the model as well. However, these could simply be shaders making it look as though the blocks are different colors, as seen in one player's Minecraft library.
Regardless of its small flaws, the Eiffel Tower scale model looks incredible, and clearly took md_yeamin_habib a long time to make. With some revisions, md_yeamin_habib could turn this good scale model into a perfect one. Perhaps now they can even scale the model up so that it is a massive 1:1 scale, showing off a true behemoth of a structure worthy of sitting beside their impressive Sphinx structure.
