Despite its blocky aesthetic, many Minecraft fans are keen to show just how gorgeous the game can be, and one player continues this trend with the next phase of their beautiful city build. Going down as one of the highest-grossing video games of all time, with hundreds of millions of copies sold to date, Mojang's sandbox IP is a force to be reckoned with in the AAA sphere, and it's largely the community that is helping to keep it alive and well.

Of course, the developer has its part to play too. With version 1.20 of Minecraft on the way, reportedly set to release sometime in January, Mojang is still full of ideas, implementing new features and improvements. After well over a decade, it's hard to imagine any game not only still being in the limelight, but still having a thriving community of fans engrossed in its world. But Minecraft is such a game, and sometimes, what people create within the game world is nothing short of astounding.

In a recent post on Reddit, user RealDraGonnet has shown an image from their Minecraft playthrough, which depicts what they describe as an "ecological futuristic" city they call Ender. It's a continuation of a project they've been working on for some time now, which aims to construct each building within this metropolis using just curves. The finished design will be a completed city that sits on an island surrounded by the ocean and will pay homage to the lost city of Atlantis. The image shows just how beautiful it looks in this second stage, with RealDraGonnet saying they have so far built 15 buildings. This is part of an ongoing project, and the builder provides a link showing images from earlier parts of the construction.

Minecraft builders create some jaw-dropping things, from highly detailed and gorgeous-looking cities to complex redstone machines to replicas of real-world landmarks and buildings. With near-infinite replay value and powerful building mechanics, the game affords so much creativity that it's no wonder it's still topping the gaming charts even after all these years.

There's so much to do that Minecraft is the ultimate boredom killer. Back in 2009, when the alpha was released, nobody could quite foresee just how much of a juggernaut the game would become. It's seen so many changes over time, yet it still retains what makes the game so special. It's no wonder Minecraft is leaving the competition behind, and it will likely be a good while before the world is ready to move on.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
