Just over two weeks ago, Mojang officially announced Minecraft Earth, a mobile augmented reality game, like Pokemon GO, that looks to let players collaboratively build Minecraft-style creations in the real world. One thing that was notably missing from the Minecraft Earth announcement was actual gameplay footage, but a recent presentation at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference picks up where this announcement left off, giving fans their first look at Minecraft Earth gameplay.

At the beginning of the Minecraft Earth gameplay demo from WWDC 2019, Mojang started small, showing off a tabletop-sized structure complete with redstone circuitry, fireworks, and flowing water. This portion of the Minecraft Earth gameplay demo continued by giving attendees a peak at what cooperative play will be like, as players will be able to see what tools their collaborators are holding and can use motion capture to animate avatars inserted into the Minecraft Earth map.

From there, things went big in the first Minecraft Earth demo, with the aforementioned structure expanding to subsume the entirety of the stage. One of the presenters then materialized within the "Minecraft world," and it is noted that this "people inclusion feature" is only available on iOS. Furthermore, it is stated that even with this increase in scale, gameplay in Minecraft Earth remains "fully interactive."

To end the WWDC Minecraft Earth gameplay demo, a chasm opened to reveal a skeleton-infested cave below the presenters. Indeed, they made quick work of these baddies from a distance before engaging with a creeper at close range.

For those that have been wondering what is Minecraft Earth, the Minecraft Earth gameplay footage from WWDC should certainly clear up a few things about Mojang's augmented reality game. However, as is the case with traditional Minecraft, the full extent of the game is not likely to be seen until ambitious and dedicated players get some time with the Minecraft Earth beta.

On that note, it is said that the Minecraft Earth beta release date will occur during the summer, and interested players can signup for the Minecraft Earth beta through the game's website. Doing so will grant players access to a Minecraft Earth skin, which may just tide them over until the Minecraft Earth beta arrives.

Minecraft Earth is currently in development for mobile devices.
