A group of Minecraft players built an impressive pyramid structure in the game and shared a time-lapse video showing the process. While these are not the only Minecraft players with unique builds, it’s truly an awe-inspiring display of cuboid architecture.

Created by Markus “Notch” Persson and currently developed by Swedish studio Mojang, Minecraft is one of the most popular video games in the world. The game sets players loose in a procedurally generated world to build or explore as they see fit. This freedom has enabled Minecraft players to create incredible structures and impressive contraptions. Mojang’s wide-open sandbox went on to be the best-selling game of all time and is the fourth most played, with over 738 million users as of 2021.

Minecraft YouTube channel BuildBros recently released a short video showing a time-lapse of them constructing a massive pyramid complex in the desert. The channel also uploaded a clip from the video to Reddit. The latter showcased the construction of the central pyramid and proved very popular with Minecraft fans on the platform.

BuildBros created their pyramid using Minecraft’s Dokucraft Light mod, which adds some more realistic textures to the game. Said pyramid is surrounded by a high wall and decorative moat and adorned with a lattice pattern on the outer shell. The cavernous interior is lit with lanterns and features a towering Nether Portal with numerous smaller Portals lining the way to it. However, the construction time-lapse is what makes the videos worth watching, with one Reddit user comparing it to the cinematics that play when the players builds a Wonder in Civilization 6.

The full-length video opens with a preview of the completed structure, followed by a time-lapse of clearing and leveling the site. A partially escalated hill serves as one corner of the outer wall, which was the first part they built and featured decorative waterfalls flowing into a shallow moat. With the wall complete, the BuildBros laid the pyramid’s foundation and began constructing its outer shell. While real-world pyramids are mostly filled-in with only a few small internal rooms, Minecraft allowed the YouTubers to create a hollow structure instead.

After capping it and constructing the decorative lattice, they set about building and filling another moat around the pyramid and decorating it with tile and lily pads. Finally, they completed the exterior with a covered entryway and footpath leading out to a small wooden dock on the river. The Minecraft players also surrounded the latter with some trees, cacti, and other plants.

The final steps involved filling out the interior, starting with the large pedestal on which the main Portal sat. Next, they constructed a large back chamber around it. This masks how much of the interior is hollow, though the chamber is still massive and imposing. Altogether, it’s another impressive example of Minecraft construction.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and legacy platforms.
