Super Mario and Minecraft are two of the most popular video game franchises in the world. Recently, a Minecraft player built Delfino Plaza, the hub area of Super Mario Sunshine, and posted it online.

It has almost been 20 years since Super Mario Sunshine was released. Developed by Nintendo EAD, it came out on the GameCube on July 19 in Japan and August 26 in North America. It also came to the Switch in 2020 with Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, allowing new players to check out many of the game's tropical locales, such as Delfino Plaza. Despite being available on multiple platforms, that hasn't stopped some fans from remaking areas of the classic platformer in other games.

Recently, a Reddit user, JUH03, recreated their own version of Delfino Plaza in Minecraft and posted a couple of images of it for other fans to enjoy. The first image shows the hub area from the sky with the statue that leads players to the Bianco Hills stage being upfront and in the center. The second image shows all of Delfino Plaza but from a top-down perspective.

Most of the people that saw the post of these two images liked it. When asked by another Reddit user, thriceness, which of Minecraft's modes they built Delfino Plaza on, JUH03 answered that they did it in Creative Mode and that they had spent a few months working on it.

There are a lot of fun areas that players can go to in Super Mario Sunshine, and Delfino Plaza is one of the most iconic as fans will have to walk around it to get to each of the game's levels. In Super Mario Sunshine's story, Mario went on vacation to Delfino Plaza and was arrested by the Piantas that live there for supposedly polluting it. Since Super Mario Sunshine, Delfino Plaza has also appeared in Mario Party 6, Mario Power Tennis, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and some of the Super Smash Bros. and Fortune Street titles. It was even a premade world in Minecraft's Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, which was available on the Switch, Wii U, and 3DS.

Though Super Mario Sunshine didn't gain as much success as other games in the franchise, like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Odyssey, fans really enjoyed their adventures in Delfino Plaza and have wanted to see it return in a mainline installment for years. Some even hoped that it would appear in Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo will hopefully listen to fans one day, but until Delfino Plaza returns, creative artists like JUH03 can remake Isle Delfino in games like Minecraft for others to enjoy.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
