Ever since Minecraft was fully released out of beta on November 18, 2011, the game has seen consistent updates that have added new features, tools, and creatures to give players much more variety in the worlds they explore. As Microsoft took ownership of the title, these updates grew in frequency and even scale. Now, the highly anticipated Caves and Cliffs update is fully in the hands of fans, adding further depth to the game.

Caves and Cliffs has been one of the biggest updates to Minecraft, aiming to make the caves and mountains found in the title's biomes more realistic and fulfilling to explore. The update was revealed to fans last year, promising features such as the lush and dripstone caves. The update proved to be so large that Mojang announced that it would need to be split into two parts.

After Part 1 was released on June 8, the second part has finally arrived which gives players plenty of content to mess around with as they create new worlds and start new Survival and Hardcore mode playthroughs. Lush and dripstone caves can spawn naturally, with all of the new ore veins and blocks waiting for fans to dig up. There's also the chance that players' runs could end due to aggressive billy goats kicking them off of mountains.

The release of Part 2 means that these features are no longer seen as "experimental" as the main development cycle for the update has finished. This means players with versions of Bedrock edition, such as the Nintendo Switch version, that weren't able to use the toggle to play with things such as the new cave systems before now have a chance to load up their world and start exploring.

Fans who are especially excited about the update can also go to the Minecraft Marketplace to download free avatar items to create custom skins in-game that match the themes of mining and climbing mountains. These items will be available until the update has been out for an entire year, leaving the shop in 2023. These are sure to heighten many fans' experiences while experiencing the new features for themselves.

As wonderful as the release of the update is for adventurous players, the size of this update may mean future updates to Minecraft outside of potential patches for bug fixes and balancing are far off in the future. While many fans are hoping that future updates will re-tool the other biomes in Minecraft, these may seem very far away. At the very least, there's a fair deal of content to enjoy in Caves and Cliffs, and it will certainly take players a very long time to experience it all for themselves.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
