Ever expanding and keeping the game ticking over with new content, the team behind the gaming behemoth that is Minecraft is always looking for ways to keep the sandbox title fresh and interesting. One of the big changes that's been talked about a lot is the Caves and Cliffs update with part one already out. Now, part two has been in the pipeline, which will bring even more assets and some terrain alterations to the game. This next update is due out very soon, and some of the developers have been talking about some of the finer points about what fans can expect.

In a recent video uploaded to the official Minecraft YouTube channel, a number of key people in the development of the game have been discussing Caves and Cliffs: Part Two and how it will affect player's current worlds. The video description confirms that this latest big patch will be out tomorrow, though it doesn't give any indication on what exact times it will be getting rolled out.

In the short video, the team answer a number of burning questions that fans may have. One of these relates to Minecraft's terrain and biome system. Given that Part Two will alter the way the game looks quite dramatically, some may be concerned that this could affect their current maps. According to gameplay designer Henrik Kniberg, players will still maintain the current worlds they have, but will notice the changes to the game once they explore outside the regions they've already discovered. This is where the "caves and cliffs" part comes into play, as this latest iteration will dramatically alter the way mountains and cavernous areas look, with caves now expected to be a lot more open once entering.

One other thing discussed was the placement of Minecraft's ores, which is related to the height of the overall game world. Given that Caves and Cliffs: Part Two expands the height, one of the issues the team faced was making sure that ores, such as coal or iron, were placed in proportion to the game's new dimensions.

Overall, it sounds like this new update is going to bring with it some significant changes to the way the game looks. Given that Minecraft has near-infinite replay value, increasing the overall height and adding a lot more assets is only going to increase the longevity. It's a game that is already ten years old at this point, and is still going strong, so more huge updates are going to keep fans coming back for more.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
