When Mojang first launched Minecraft all those years ago, it became a global phenomenon and has stayed at the top for the last decade or so. That may sound obvious today, but there was a time when it was just a more basic indie title, although many perhaps suspected it would go on to become much bigger. Indeed, Minecraft is literally one of the biggest video games in terms of map size, though it pales in comparison to the likes of No Man's Sky, and millions still use it to create all manner of constructions, including some from other franchises.

Reddit user SuperStellarSwing has decided that Minecraft needed a dose of The Elder Scrolls. Specifically, they've opted to recreate something from the series' fourth installment, Oblivion, and are currently in the process of recreating the Imperial City. Images on the subreddit show the current work in progress, with one of the pictures showing the recognizable size and shape of the city's main tower that looms over Cyrodiil and an aerial shot showing the segmented sections of the entire area.

It's not surprising that someone would want to create a facsimile of this famous gaming locale. The Imperial City is one of Oblivion's most breathtaking sights, especially the Waterfront. The White-Gold tower that acts almost as a centerpiece is just one of the striking visuals that this area contains. It's easily the biggest city in the game, containing all manner of shops and taverns, as well as the Arena, Temple District, and the affluent Talos Plaza District. It remains to be seen how much SuperStellarSwing has left to build, but it seems to be coming along nicely so far. More images are available on the Reddit thread here.

This is also not the first time a project like this has occurred and, not that along ago, another user also decided to build Oblivion's Imperial City within Minecraft. The fact that it forms a significant portion of The Elder Scrolls 4's main questline, as well as being a key trade hub, suggests that it's something that is often at the forefront of minds when fans think about the 2004 Bethesda RPG. It certainly has a distinctive look, with its circular build and the aforementioned tower.

There are many real world builds that fans recreate in Minecraft, from the White House to the UK's Houses of Parliament. The game allows for almost endless creativity, and while many enjoy using their imaginations to create something brand new, there's clearly a lot of possibilities for taking something that actually exists and giving it that Minecraft treatment.

Minecraft is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
