While horses spawn pretty regularly in the savannas and plains, players wanting to breed horses in Minecraft will require some specialized equipment, so if a player sees a baby horse out in the wild and wants one for their very own, they'll need to follow some pretty specific steps.

Horses can be found in most wide open, grassy spaces in Minecraft in herds of 2 to 6. These biomes are great for survival, so players can feel comfortable building their homes here. Horses come in a variety of colors, and they pass that coloring onto their children. Horses can be grey, brown, black, white, chestnut, or flaxen chestnut-colored with a massive variety of markings. Horses also appear with some regularity in villages, where players can steal them if they are up for it.

Getting a Horse

Players can't just mount a wild horse expect it to be tamed; they'll first need to make sure they have nothing in their hands. Then they'll have to mount them until they have hearts over their heads. Once the Minecraft horse is tamed, players can use a saddle and bridle on the horse.

Breeding Tame Horses

Considering that Minecraft has sold an amazing 200 million copies worldwide, players should be able to find some screen captures of all the different possible color and marking combinations available. Just find a color combo that looks pleasing and grab some wild horses that match that aesthetic. Now that players have two tamed mounts in the coloring that they are looking for, put them in a small space together. Players can build a fence to ensure the two horses are close enough together to breed and no other horses get in the way. Feed both horses a golden carrot or golden apple, and they will breed. Horses have a five-minute cool down before they can breed again.

Foals have a 44% chance of looking identical to their parents, and an 11% chance of being a completely different coloring. Keep breeding the favored, tamed horses until the foal comes out in the coloring and markings hoped for. Getting horses can be great for beginning Minecraft players to help them get around the map quickly.

Minecraft is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
