While horses spawn pretty regularly in the savannas and plains, players wanting to breed horses in Minecraft will require some specialized equipment, so if a player sees a baby horse out in the wild and wants one for their very own, they'll need to follow some pretty specific steps.

Players can build a fence to ensure the two horses are close enough together to breed and no other horses get in the way. Feed both horses a golden carrot or golden apple, and they will breed. Horses have a five-minute cool down before they can breed again.
Foals have a 44% chance of looking identical to their parents, and an 11% chance of being a completely different coloring. Keep breeding the favored, tamed horses until the foal comes out in the coloring and markings hoped for. Getting horses can be great for beginning Minecraft players to help them get around the map quickly.
