There are multiple reasons why Minecraft remains one of the most popular games in the world, even nearly 10 years after its initial release. One of those is how it fosters creativity, with players capable of building impressive structures and entire worlds within the confines of the game. Just look at one person's efforts to recreate the Sinnoh region from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

And thanks to modding, players have even more freedom to create, with some just using it as an opportunity to play other games through Minecraft. One person was able to get the original Doom working in the game and now another is working on a mod for VR rhythm game Beat Saber.

Reddit user Swifter1243 recently shared footage of a work-in-progress version of the mod that pretty much does what it says on the tin: it allows someone to play Beat Saber inside of Minecraft. The gameplay of swinging two differently colored sticks to hit blocks flying towards the player remains the same; everything just has a Minecraft aesthetic instead.

According to Swifter1243, they managed this by using a modified version of the Vivecraft mod (which allows Minecraft to be played in VR) and hooking it up to SteamVR. What's more, it's possible to convert any Beat Saber map into the mod.

The mod isn't available for download yet, but Swifter1243 has laid out their future plans for it. Aside from improving hit detection and upgrading the models for the two sabers, they essentially want it to work exactly like the original game, with miss indicators, a health bar, and the ability to fail levels. They are also aiming to incorporate custom colors (so users aren't stuck with the usual red and blue) and possibly a bloom shader to make the lights and sabers glow like in Beat Saber, though that last one is only a possibility at this point and may not even come to fruition.

Judging by the responses on Reddit, people are very impressed with Swifter1243's work and express a desire to give it a shot themselves once it's actually available to download. Some admit to not being able to tell if it's a mod for Minecraft or Beat Saber, while others are forlorn over the fact that it's only available in VR, which not everyone has access to.

Swifter1243 also admits that they wouldn't choose to play this mod over regular Beat Saber and only seems to be making the mod just because they can. However, they add that it might entice Minecraft players who haven't played Beat Saber before.

Speaking of Beat Saber, players are still waiting for multiplayer to be added for the PlayStation VR version. The plan was for it to finally become available in January and, if this recent tweet is anything to go by, it should hopefully be ready to go before the month is up.

Minecraft is available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
